Bigscout Media apologises to GFA, deletes Prince Owusu allegations after legal threat

Bigscout Media has issued an unreserved apology to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and deleted all content relating to allegations that Black Stars striker Prince Owusu was asked to surrender part of his earnings in exchange for a national team call-up.

The apology comes after the GFA, through its legal representatives, Odupong & Kishiwale, served the media outlet with a cease-and-desist letter describing the allegations as false, baseless, and defamatory.

According to the law firm, a woman who identified herself as Prince Owusu’s cousin claimed during an interview on Bigscout Media that officials of the GFA demanded 70 percent of the player’s potential 2026 FIFA World Cup earnings in exchange for including him in Ghana’s squad.

The GFA strongly denied the allegations, insisting that no official had demanded, solicited, or agreed to receive any portion of Owusu’s earnings in connection with a Black Stars invitation.

In its legal notice, the Association demanded that Bigscout Media immediately remove the interview and all related publications, refrain from republishing the allegations, issue a public apology and retraction, preserve all relevant digital records, and confirm compliance within 48 hours. The GFA also warned that failure to comply could lead to legal action.

Responding to the demands, Bigscout Media confirmed that it had removed all videos and publications connected to the interview from its social media platforms and other digital channels.

“I would like to use this opportunity to render an unqualified apology to your client, the GFA, for allowing an individual to use my platform to smear the image of your client,” the statement read.

The media outlet further assured the GFA that it would not republish the allegations or similar claims in the future, while apologising for what it described as its “excesses.”

The controversy emerged after the allegations gained traction online, prompting Prince Owusu to publicly reject the claims. The Black Stars forward described the accusations as “completely false” and reaffirmed his commitment to representing Ghana whenever called upon.

The GFA has consistently maintained that invitations to the Black Stars are based solely on the head coach’s technical decisions and that the Association neither requests nor accepts money from players in exchange for national team call-ups.
