Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen has been accused by Ghanaian icon Asamoah Gyan of pretending to be injured during Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Rwanda.
After securing a permanent transfer to the Turkish powerhouses during the summer transfer window, Osimhen left the field in the 35th minute due to an injury setback, sending a concerning message to supporters.
The former Napoli player was later disqualified from Tuesday afternoon’s pivotal match between Nigeria and South Africa, which ended 1-1.

In order to save energy for club football as the Champions League approaches, Osimhen feigned a serious injury for Gyan.
According to the Ghana all-time topscorer, Osimhen will be fully fit and ready to play for Galatasaray in the upcoming games.
“I know these tricks. Someone told Osimhen: ‘Look, we spent a lot of money on you. The Champions League is coming up, and we’re not thrilled about you flying off to Africa for this international break. But go, play a little, lie down on the pitch, and pretend it’s serious. The next day you’ll already be back in Turkey. It’s just to avoid media noise”
“Trust me, you’ll see him fresh and running at full speed in the Turkish league and the Champions League, and no matter how many times he gets hit there—he won’t be lying on the ground. The doctors are in on it too. Euro is worth more than naira,” he said as quoted by Dailysports.net.
Nigeria now runs the risk of losing out on the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The Super Eagles are now in second place with 11 points, six points behind leaders South Africa, with two games remaining in the qualification series.
