The 69th annual Ballon d’Or ceremony, which will take place on September 22 at the Théâtre du Chatelet in Paris, France, has announced the 2025 nominees.
The Champions League-winning Paris Saint-Germain players Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, and Gianluigi Donnarumma are among the favorites to win this year’s trophy. Mohamed Salah and Raphinha are also anticipated to place highly in the voting following outstanding individual campaigns.

Real Madrid had the mother of all meltdowns when the Manchester City star won the 2024 Ballon d’Or and became the third Spaniard to be honored with the trophy. They fully expected this one to be Vinicius Jr.’s.
Journalists from France Football and fellow French publication L’Equipe – along with a select number of former players – have banded together to produce a combined list of 30 official nominees, based on players’ performances over last season.
Following on from that longlist, one football journalist from each of FIFA’s 100 top-ranked nations will be invited to cast votes for their top 10 players, awarding 15 points to the top pick, then 12, 10, eight, seven, five, four, three, two, and eventually one point down to their 10th-placed player.
Of course, there are many notable recipients of the men’s Ballon d’Or prize, so it’s not just about them: Other honors presented by France Football on the same evening include the Ballon d’Or Feminin for the world’s best women’s player, the Kopa Trophy for the best young player under 21, the Gerd Muller Trophy for the world’s best striker, the Yashin Trophy for the world’s best goalkeeper, and the Socrates Award for a football player’s contribution to society.
