Ilyas Ansah, a forward of Ghanaian heritage who was born in Germany, has declined a chance to represent the Black Stars in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
According to reports, coach Otto Addo and the Ghana Football Association have been keeping a close eye on the 21-year-old Union Berlin striker, whose parents are from Ghana, for the past few months.

Ansah, however, has decided to put his growth within Germany’s U21 squad first.
“I’ve decided to soak up everything I’m currently experiencing at Union and continue playing for the German U21 team. After the U21 European Championship, I’ll look into it next year and make a decision. As things stand, I won’t be going to the World Cup with Ghana,” Ansah explained as quoted by tribuna.com.
Ansah has already made six appearances for the German U21 side, scoring once, and his immediate focus is on solidifying his role at Union Berlin.
The striker aims to continue progressing within the German youth system before reconsidering his senior international options next year.
