Black Stars Technical Advisor Winfried Schaefer has praised Hearts of Oak captain and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, describing him as the most impressive home-based player he has observed since joining Ghana’s national team setup.

The experienced German coach has consistently emphasized his commitment to monitoring the Ghana Premier League. Over the past two months, he has visited several match venues, interacting with local coaches and players as part of efforts to strengthen the Black Stars with domestic talent.

Schaefer was present over the weekend when Medeama secured a penalty shootout victory against Samartex to advance to the quarterfinals of the Ghana FA Cup, continuing his assessment of players within the local scene.

In an interview with Medeamaa FM, the former Cameroon coach and AFCON winner highlighted the importance of Ghana’s domestic league to the national team’s future. He singled out Benjamin Asare for special recognition, stating that the Hearts of Oak shot-stopper has stood out among his peers.

According to Schaefer, Asare’s performances over the past two months have been exceptional, adding that the goalkeeper has shown qualities worthy of being considered among the top options for the Black Stars.
