For the first time since former footballer Thomas Partey was formally charged with rape by UK authorities, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has commented.
Thomas Partey is no longer with Arsenal after his contract with the team ended in June 2025. Following his departure, the charges were brought, bringing an end to a protracted inquiry into claims that initially arose in 2022.

When asked on Friday if Arsenal had handled the matter properly when Partey was a member of the team, Arteta said:
“I think the club was clear in the statement, and there are a lot of legal matters that are very complicated. I cannot comment about that.”
When asked directly whether Arsenal followed all the correct protocols while Partey was still under contract, Arteta replied: “100%.”
Throughout the investigation, Partey was a member of Arsenal, a decision that generated a great deal of public discussion and controversy. Neither the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) nor the police had filed official charges at the time.
Earlier this month, the CPS declared that Thomas Partey was now being charged with rape. The former Ghanaian player is anticipated to appear in court when legal processes start in the upcoming weeks.
