Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has sent a strong message of confidence ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, declaring that the Black Stars have what it takes to overcome every opponent in Group L.
The four-time African champions are preparing for their fifth appearance at football’s biggest tournament and will face Panama, England and Croatia in what many observers consider one of the competition’s most challenging groups.
Despite the calibre of opposition awaiting Ghana in North America, Okraku remains unwavering in his belief that the Black Stars can make a significant impact and progress beyond the group stage.
Okraku Backs Black Stars to Deliver
Addressing members of the Ghanaian community in the United States, the GFA President expressed complete confidence in the national team’s ability to compete against and defeat their group-stage opponents.
“We have three opponents at this World Cup: Panama, England and Croatia. We will crush all of them,” Okraku declared.
His comments have added to the growing sense of optimism surrounding the Black Stars as the countdown to the tournament enters its final stages.
The statement also reflects the confidence within Ghana’s football leadership following the appointment of experienced Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz, who was tasked with guiding the team to a successful World Cup campaign.
Ghana Ready for Group L Challenge
The Black Stars face a difficult path in Group L, beginning with an opening fixture against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto.
Ghana will then take on European giants England in a highly anticipated clash before wrapping up their group-stage campaign against 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia.
While England and Croatia enter the tournament with considerable international pedigree, Ghana will be aiming to prove they can compete with the world’s best and replicate some of their memorable World Cup performances from previous editions.
The Black Stars famously reached the quarter-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, the furthest any African nation has progressed alongside Cameroon, Senegal and Morocco.
New Era Under Carlos Queiroz
Much of the excitement surrounding Ghana’s World Cup campaign stems from the arrival of Carlos Queiroz.
The veteran coach has brought vast international experience to the Black Stars setup, having previously managed Portugal, Iran, Egypt, Colombia and several top clubs during his distinguished coaching career.
Since his appointment, Queiroz has emphasised discipline, unity, organisation and a winning mentality as key pillars of his project.
The Portuguese tactician has repeatedly stressed the importance of collective effort over individual brilliance, believing Ghana can become a formidable force if the squad embraces his philosophy.
Black Stars Set to Arrive in Canada
The Ghana squad is expected to arrive in Canada later today as preparations intensify ahead of their opening match against Panama.
The team has spent the past few weeks fine-tuning tactics, building chemistry and adapting to Queiroz’s methods as they seek to arrive at the tournament in peak condition.
With experienced leaders such as Jordan Ayew, Thomas Partey and Inaki Williams expected to play key roles alongside a talented new generation, hopes are growing that Ghana can enjoy a successful campaign.
Eyes on a Return to the Knockout Stage
After suffering group-stage exits at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2022 tournament in Qatar, Ghana are determined to restore their reputation on football’s biggest stage.
The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama before facing England and Croatia in two matches that could define their World Cup journey.
While Okraku’s prediction may be bold, it reflects the belief and ambition surrounding the national team as Ghana prepares to embark on another chapter in its proud World Cup history.
The challenge ahead is significant, but with confidence growing inside the camp, the Black Stars will be hoping to turn that belief into results when the tournament gets underway.
