Afriyie Barnieh scores brace to secure win for FC Aarau against Stade Lausanne-Ouchy

In the Swiss Challenge League on Monday night, FC Aarau defeated FC Stade Lausanne-Ouchy 3-0 thanks to two goals from Ghanaian attacker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh.

In their drive for top-flight promotion next season, FC Aarau maintained their top rank thanks to a remarkable performance from Afriyie Barnieh, who scored twice.

In the game’s 22nd minute, the former Hearts of Oak talismanic attacker gave the Eagles the lead with an incredible goal.

He added to FC Stade Lausanne-Ouchy’s misery in the 63rd minute by scoring the second goal, and Valon Fazliu’s goal in the 92nd minute completed their decisive win at the Stadion Brügglifeld, extending FC Aarau’s winning streak to five games.

The 24-year-old was a delight to watch in the fixture and lasted for the entire duration, with his compatriot David Acquah also delivering a masterclass performance in FC Aarau’s defence.

In his first season with FC Aarau, Afriyie Barnieh has now scored four goals in five league games.

The forward, who was born in Kumasi, joined the second-tier team on a free transfer after amicably ending his two-and-a-half-year deal with FC Zurich of the Swiss Super League.

Since making his debut in a friendly match against Japan in 2022, Afriyie Barnieh has earned three caps for Ghana’s senior national team.
