Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has revealed that Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz earns a monthly salary of $80,000, dismissing reports claiming the Portuguese tactician receives $100,000 per month.
Queiroz was appointed Ghana’s head coach in April following the dismissal of Otto Addo, signing a short-term contract with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Although the financial details of his contract were never officially disclosed, widespread speculation suggested the experienced coach was earning $100,000 every month.
However, speaking in an interview with TV3, Sports Minister Kofi Adams clarified the situation, insisting that the reports were inaccurate.
“Carlos Queiroz earns $80,000 a month, not the $100,000 that had been speculated,” the Buem Member of Parliament said.
The 73-year-old guided the Black Stars to the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time since the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
Ghana began their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Panama before holding England to a goalless draw. Despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to Croatia in their final group match, the Black Stars finished third in Group L, securing qualification for the Round of 32.
Their World Cup journey, however, ended with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the knockout stage.
Despite the elimination, Queiroz has received praise for restoring discipline and competitiveness to the Black Stars, with reports suggesting both the GFA and the Ministry of Sports are satisfied with his performance during the tournament.
The veteran coach is reportedly in line for a new two-year contract that would keep him in charge of the national team beyond the World Cup.
Looking ahead, Ghana will turn its attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where the Black Stars have been drawn in Group C alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Somalia, and The Gambia. The qualifying campaign is expected to begin in September as Ghana seeks a return to continental success.
