Ghana defender Abdul Rahman Baba could be set for a sensational return to the Ghana national football team after reportedly being contacted by new head coach Carlos Queiroz ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to sources, Queiroz has reached out to the experienced left-back as part of his plans to strengthen the national team squad. The coach is believed to be seeking an early decision from Rahman as he works within a limited preparation period ahead of the tournament.
Rahman has not played for Ghana since September 2023, when he featured in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic national football team at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Following that match, the defender stepped away from international football to focus on recovery and rebuilding his fitness at club level with PAOK FC. He also withdrew from Ghana’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in order to prioritise his physical condition after dealing with injury setbacks.
The 31-year-old has been an important figure for the Black Stars over the years, making 52 appearances for Ghana between 2014 and 2023 and scoring two goals. His experience includes representing the country at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which was his most recent major international competition.
Ghana will be making their fifth World Cup appearance at the 2026 tournament and have been drawn in a challenging Group L alongside Panama national football team, Croatia national football team, and England national football team.
With preparations already underway, Queiroz is focused on assembling a competitive squad capable of progressing beyond the group stage. Rahman’s return could provide valuable experience and depth at left-back if he decides to rejoin the national team and compete for a place in the final squad.
