The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced Gold Fields Ghana Limited as the new headline sponsor of the Ghana Women’s Premier League, marking a significant milestone in the continued growth of women’s football in the country.
The new partnership ushers in a fresh era for Ghana’s top-flight women’s league, with Gold Fields taking over from Malta Guinness following the expiration of the beverage company’s sponsorship agreement.
The sponsorship is expected to provide a major financial boost to the Women’s Premier League, supporting the GFA’s efforts to improve the league’s competitiveness, visibility, and long-term sustainability.
Announcing the partnership, the GFA described the agreement as a landmark investment in the women’s game and a reflection of its commitment to building a stronger and more commercially attractive league.
“The partnership represents a significant investment in the women’s game and underscores the GFA’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the Women’s Premier League through strategic collaborations that enhance its competitiveness, visibility and long-term sustainability,” the GFA said in a statement.
The Football Association also expressed its appreciation to Gold Fields Ghana Limited for supporting the development of women’s football and officially welcomed the mining company into Ghana’s football family.
The announcement comes at a time when women’s football in Ghana continues to enjoy steady progress on both the domestic and international stages.
The senior national women’s team, the Black Queens, are preparing for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, while the Black Maidens recently secured qualification for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after defeating Senegal in the final round of qualifiers.
The GFA disclosed that additional details regarding the sponsorship package, the league’s new branding and identity, as well as implementation plans for the partnership, will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
The agreement is expected to deliver renewed financial support to Women’s Premier League clubs, enhance the competition’s commercial appeal, and further accelerate the development of women’s football in Ghana as the GFA continues to attract strategic corporate partnerships.
