Captain Joseph Narbi scored the game-winning goal as Black Starlets defeated Division One League leaders Port City in a pre-tournament friendly, bolstering their spirits.

Minutes after kickoff, Narbi calmly slotted in what turned out to be the game’s only goal, capping off a well-executed team play. The early goal set the stage for a fierce match that put the Starlets’ preparation and organization to the test.

With relentless pressing and well-organized play, Port City put pressure on the opposition and demonstrated why they are atop Zone Three. The Starlets were forced to maintain discipline throughout the match as a result of their intensity, which offered the level of competition required to challenge the national U17 team.

The match forms part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Morocco in April. The technical team has prioritised competitive friendlies to sharpen match fitness and assess squad depth.

The Starlets are scheduled to play Semper Fi later in the day as part of a deliberate plan to give all players adequate game time and prepare them for tournament conditions.

Kurt Okraku, president of the Ghana Football Association, has praised Black Stars coach Otto Addo’s accomplishment of leading the national team to successive FIFA World Cup qualifying and urged for continuous support of the coach.

Addo returned to guide the squad through another qualifying campaign, and he is currently in his second tenure as head coach. After leading the Black Stars to the FIFA World Cup in 2022, the former Ghana star has since led the team’s successful campaign to earn a spot in the 2026 competition.

“The only Ghanaian to qualify the Black Stars for two World Cups is Otto Addo. Let’s honor and encourage him for that. “He did a good job,” Okraku told Asaase Radio.

As part of preparations for the global showpiece, the GFA has strengthened the technical setup with five new appointments. Assistant coaches Alain Ravera, Kim Grant, and Kim Lars Björkegren have joined the bench, alongside analyst José Daniel Martínez Alfonso and performance coach Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi.

The additions are aimed at reinforcing the team’s technical, analytical, and physical preparation as Ghana builds towards the 2026 World Cup.

Ghana will face Panama, England and Croatia in Group L.

I am the best coach to lead Asante Kotoko - Prince Yaw Owusu

Despite a loss in his first game, interim Asante Kotoko head coach Prince Yaw Owusu has stated that he is confident in his ability to guide the team.

After Karim Zito left, Yaw Owusu took over, and on Sunday at Baba Yara Stadium, he faced a difficult test against rivals Hearts of Oak. Baba Adamu’s header in the first half gave the Phobians a 1-0 victory.

Yaw Owusu acknowledged the threat the loss provides to Kotoko’s hopes of winning the championship in a post-match interview with the media.

“We find it hard to win the league after losing to Hearts of Oak,” he acknowledged.

When asked if he is the right person to steer the team forward, the interim coach replied firmly: “Yes, there’s no two ways about it.”

Kotoko, who have gone three games without a win, will look to bounce back when they visit Young Apostles at the Wenchi Sports Stadium in their Matchday 23 fixture this weekend.

Benjamin Asare pledges improved performance at the 2026 World Cup

Benjamin Asare, the goalie for Hearts of Oak, has promised to maintain his impressive play in order to help Ghana at the 2026 World Cup.

Asare made these remarks after putting on another strong showing in goal to assist the Phobian Club defeat Asante Kotoko 1-0 in Sunday’s Super Clash at Baba Yara Stadium.

Hearts of Oak ended the game with 10 men when Emmanuel Amankwah was sent off, thanks to Baba Adamu’s header in the first half.

Asare is committed to maintaining his strong performance from World Cup qualifying and friendly matches going into the competition, which is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

“I hope to continue these performances at the World Cup,” Asare told Asempa FM.

“It was a good game against Asante Kotoko, but we were determined to win and take revenge.”

He also clarified that his display was not influenced by the presence of Black Stars coach Otto Addo and the national team technical staff.

“Otto Addo and the Black Stars technical team had no hand in my performance yesterday. I was fully focused on delivering for the team, and I only realised after the game that they had come to support me.”

Hearts of Oak will look to extend their strong run when they host Berekum Chelsea in Matchday 23 at the University of Ghana Stadium this weekend.

Jonas Adjetey

Charles Kwablan Akonnor, a former Ghanaian international and former VfL Wolfsburg captain, has counseled young defender Jonas Adjetey to concentrate on securing a consistent starting position at the team.

The 22-year-old Adjetey signed a contract with the German team through 2030 after joining from FC Basel in Switzerland this summer.

Akonnor reflected on his own time at Wolfsburg in an interview with Graphic Sports, stating that despite his difficulties, footballers received support from their clubs in general.

He emphasized how things got better as more Black players, like Pablo Thiam, established themselves in the league.

Akonnor also acknowledged that the 2006 FIFA World Cup contributed to a shift in German attitudes.

“That World Cup helped Germans accept foreign nationals more, so Adjetey will have the privilege of being welcomed well,” he noted.

Looking ahead, Akonnor, who now works as the head coach for Kenyan side Go Mahia, stressed the importance of Adjetey establishing himself on the pitch.

“All he needs to do now is to work hard, become a starter and not just a bench player. That will help and prepare him for the next level,” he said.

As he accelerates his recuperation from his hamstring injury, Mohammed Kudus has asked Tottenham Hotspur for permission to do something out of the ordinary.

After an outstanding start to his Spurs career, Kudus sustained an injury during Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland at the beginning of the year and hasn’t played a game since.

The Ghanaian’s speed and directness on the flanks have been sorely missed by Spurs, and it was first thought that Kudus wouldn’t return until April.

The 25-year-old is now among Tottenham’s double-digit absentees, and since the Lilywhites fired Thomas Frank, we now know that he will have a new management when he rejoins the training field.

Tottenham’s Mohammed Kudus is responding well to treatment after a specialist trip

According to The Sun, the former West Ham player has visited a specialist in Amsterdam in an attempt to accelerate his recovery.

It turns out that Kudus recovered from a knee injury he suffered while playing for Ajax in 2020 with the assistance of the same specialist.

Since then, the Tottenham player and the medic have stayed close, and now that the North London club has given him permission, he has chosen to receive therapy from him once more.

According to a report by The Telegraph, Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with two further counts of rape. This news adds to the legal issue that is already looming over the 32-year-old.

In addition to the counts he is already challenging, the Crown Prosecution Service has approved the fresh charges. When Partey first appeared before Southwark Crown Court in September of last year, he entered a not guilty plea to five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

According to reports, the alleged offenses occurred between 2021 and 2022, when he was a regular member of the first team at a Premier League club in north London. He was formally charged four days after leaving the club at the end of June, following the expiry of his contract.

Thomas Partey faces fresh rape charges as court date set for March appearance

Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 13 March, in relation to the latest accusations. He remains on bail and is due to stand trial on November 2. Bail conditions permit him to continue his football career but require him to notify police at least 24 hours before any international travel and prohibit contact with the complainants.

Now playing in Spain’s La Liga with Villarreal after signing as a free agent, the midfielder continues to be involved with the Ghana national team. Ghana are set to face England, Panama and Croatia at the 2026 World Cup in June.

The case remains ongoing, with the charges yet to be tested in court.

Antoine Semenyo, a Ghanaian international, scored in Manchester City’s victory over Fulham on Wednesday, cementing his place in the English Premier League’s history books.

During a fiercely fought match at Etihad Stadium, Semenyo started and played the entire game as the Sky Blues easily defeated their opponent 3-0.

By scoring and setting up a goal, the Black Stars attacker was instrumental in the team’s resounding victory over their rival.

Semenyo has surpassed Ghanaian icon Antony Yeboah’s record of 12 goals in the 1995–1996 Premier League season to become the highest-scoring Ghanaian player in the Premier League with 13 goals in a single season.

Yeboah’s tally had stood untouched for nearly three decades, but Semenyo ensured the long-standing record is broken this time after netting against Fulham.

The 25-year-old had already come close to equaling Yeboah’s record after netting 11 goals during the 2024/25 football campaign.

Semenyo’s record-breaking strike crowns a remarkable season for the 25-year-old, who has swiftly adapted to life at Manchester City after securing a high-profile move in the winter transfer window.

Ahead of the summer transfer season, Spanish powerhouse Atletico Madrid has made Ghanaian international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku a major target.

Due to his outstanding performances for Leicester City this season, Issahaku has drawn a lot of interest. Atletico Madrid is keeping an eye on the quick Ghanaian winger.

According to Osikanitv.com, the Spanish team is willing to pay about €24 million to get the Black Stars striker as the team looks to bolster its roster for the upcoming season.

The 21-year-old winger is known for his quickness, direct running, and capacity to challenge opponents one-on-one. He is one of the most impressive young players in the English Championship thanks to his energetic performances.

Atletico Madrid is reportedly vying for the Ghanaian attacker’s signing in response to Issahaku’s impressive performance.

He would be able to compete at the top level of European football if he were to move to the Spanish powerhouse, which would be a major career advancement.

Issahaku has made a name for himself in the English Championship as one of the key players, despite Leicester City’s patchy play.

The 21-year-old Ghana international has made 32 appearances for Leicester City this season, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists across the period.

Black Stars Technical Advisor Winfried Schaefer has praised Hearts of Oak captain and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, describing him as the most impressive home-based player he has observed since joining Ghana’s national team setup.

The experienced German coach has consistently emphasized his commitment to monitoring the Ghana Premier League. Over the past two months, he has visited several match venues, interacting with local coaches and players as part of efforts to strengthen the Black Stars with domestic talent.

Schaefer was present over the weekend when Medeama secured a penalty shootout victory against Samartex to advance to the quarterfinals of the Ghana FA Cup, continuing his assessment of players within the local scene.
