Caleb Yirenkyi Shines at Centre-Back, Wins MOTM in Nordsjaelland Draw

Ghanaian youngster Caleb Yirenkyi delivered an impressive performance for FC Nordsjælland as they secured a 1–1 draw against AGF Aarhus in the Danish Superliga on Thursday.

The 20-year-old midfielder was deployed in an unfamiliar centre-back role, but he rose to the challenge with a calm and disciplined performance that highlighted his growing influence within the team.

Strong display in new position

Despite playing outside his usual midfield role, Yirenkyi looked comfortable throughout the match. His positional awareness, composure on the ball, and ability to read the game helped Nordsjælland maintain stability at the back.

The Ghanaian’s performance became even more decisive late in the game.

Crucial late assist

AGF took the lead in the 31st minute when Patrick Mortensen finished calmly after being set up by Sebastian Jorgensen.

With the visitors appearing on course for victory, Nordsjælland increased their attacking pressure in the closing stages.

Their persistence paid off in the 83rd minute when Yirenkyi showed excellent vision and technique to set up Levy Nene, who converted the equaliser to rescue a point for the home side.

Man of the Match recognition

Yirenkyi’s composed performance and decisive contribution earned him the Man of the Match award.

His ability to perform effectively in different positions continues to demonstrate his versatility, a quality that could make him a valuable option for the Ghana national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Fellow Ghanaian features

Another Ghanaian player, Prince Amoako, also played an important role in the match, completing the full 90 minutes as Nordsjælland fought hard to earn a point at home.

So far this season, Yirenkyi has made 30 appearances across all competitions, contributing two goals and six assists for Nordsjælland — further evidence of the young midfielder’s steady development in European football.

Manchester United sends scouts to watch Caleb Yirenkyi as EPL clubs race for Ghana star

After sending scouts to watch the FC Nordsjaelland star play in the Superliga against Sonderjyske, Manchester United has stepped up their interest in Ghanaian prodigy Caleb Yirenkyi.

English clubs have been showing interest in the highly regarded midfield player, and Arsenal has joined the hunt for the Right to Dream Academy graduate.

Yirenkyi is considered the club’s next top export and might follow in the footsteps of fellow countrymen Mohammed Kudus and Kamaldeen Sulemana. His stock has increased in recent months.

James Wilcox, the director of football at Manchester United, sent scouts to watch the Ghanaian international over the weekend, according to TEAMTalk.

After the Superliga resumed play after the winter break, the 20-year-old led his team to victory with a Man of the Match effort. As Nordsjaelland handed Sonderjyske its fourth loss of the season, Yirenkyi scored and provided an assist.

The dynamic midfielder is seen by United, who are now enjoying success, as a possible replacement for Casemiro, who is leaving.

Arsenal, meanwhile, has been keeping an eye on the player and may try to sign him during the summer transfer window.

Brighton & Hove Albion, which first expressed interest when United showed interest in their Cameroonian midfielder Carlos Baleba, is now also pursuing the player.

In the event that the Indomitable Lion departs in the summer, Yirenkyi is considered as a potential Baleba replacement.
