IT TAKES MORE THAN BEING A GOOD PLAYER IN THE DOMESTIC LEAGUE TO PLAY FOR THE BLACK STARS – MOHAMMED GAGO

Former Ghana International and Nsoatreman FC head coach Mohammed Gago believes it is not all good players in the GPL can play for the Black Stars.

Despite coach Chris Hughton’s itinerant of match centers to scout players. The latest Black Stars squad for the upcoming game against Madagascar lacks home-based players.

With Antoine Semenyo out injured, Hughton selected Kwasi Okyere Wriedt over the leading goal scorer in Ghana’s Premier League, Abednego Tetteh. Questions have been raised over the decision, but Gago insists not all good players in the local league can play for the national team.

The local Scene is not like the International scene and wearing the national team jersey is not easy at all, he told Radio Gold.

“It’s not every player that is good on the local level at the same time can stand good at the national level.”
He added,
“It takes a lot of commitment, and we have to know that one player cannot change the Black Stars.”

Abedenego Tetteh is the leading top scorer with 16 goals in the Ghana Premier league whiles Okyere Kwasi Wriedt has bagged 3 goals for his side in the German Bundesliga 2.

Ghana will then play away to Madagascar on 18th June at Antananarivo in Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
