Inaki Williams, who was injured and missed the previous international window, is about to rejoin the Black Stars.

Inaki Williams is anticipated to be part of Ghana’s team for their September 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

Williams had surgery before the close of the season, which kept him out of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and caused him to miss the previous two Ghanaian games.

The Black Stars’ chances of making the tournament were rekindled when they defeated Mali and the Central African Republic in back-to-back, pivotal games despite his absence.

Williams, who played in Athletic Bilbao’s La Liga debut against Getafe the previous weekend, is now healthy and prepared to support Ghana in the AFCON.

Black Stars will play their first away game of the season on September 9 against Niger after hosting Angola at Baba Yara Stadium on September 5.

Otto Addo’s team hopes to finish in the top two in Group F in order to earn a seat in the AFCON competition, which takes place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

Here Is Why Inaki Williams Played With Glass Shard In Foot For Two Years

Ernesto Valverde, the head coach of Athletic Club, said that Iñaki Williams has been playing for two years with a piece of glass hidden in his foot.

During this time, the striker didn’t know that he had a 2-centimeter piece of glass stuck in the bottom of his left foot.

Iñaki found this foreign object while he was having surgery on Tuesday to fix a painful scar on his left foot. During this procedure, the doctors found the piece of glass that had been stuck in his foot for a long time.

In his Instagram stories, Iñaki posted a picture of the problem: the piece of glass that had been taken off his foot earlier this week.

Based on Valverde, this strange situation started two years ago when Iñaki stepped on a piece of glass while on vacation and hurt his foot badly.

Even though he had something stuck in his foot, Iñaki did amazing things, like breaking the record for most games played in a row and winning the Copa del Rey.

“Iñaki Williams has broken a record for consecutive games played and has won a Copa del Rey whilst having a two-centimetre glass stuck in the sole of his foot,” Valverde marveled on Friday. “It’s amazing, but it’s like that.”

Valverde further elaborated, “He [Iñaki] has given me permission to tell this story because it is worth telling. For a few months, he was reporting discomfort in his scar. He was undergoing treatment, and after the Copa del Rey final – on April 6 – he had an MRI, and he still had a glass stuck in the sole of his foot. When they stitched him up [two years ago], they left a glass of about two centimeters, and it was already approaching the bone or a tendon.”

The revelation left both the doctor and Valverde in a state of disbelief and laughter, as Valverde recounted, “The doctor and I started laughing [when we found out] because we couldn’t believe it.”

The 29-year-old has scored 14 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions this season and is ruled out of the final league game against Rayo Vallecano.
