Joseph Paintsil: “I was disappointed to not be included in the Black Stars squad for the 2022 World Cup.”

Joseph Paintsil, a forward for LA Galaxy, has expressed his disappointment at not being included in the Black Stars’ roster for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The former KRC Genk attacker was included in the provisional roster prior to the competition, but Otto Addo removed him from the final team.

In 13 games in the Belgian first division, Paintsil, who was attempting to join the squad, recorded five assists and six league goals.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Paintsil reflected on his experience of being left off the squad, saying, “It was strange, and I was unhappy, but I always have to accept the decision of the coach.”

“I was disappointed, but my job is to stay focused. There are more World Cups ahead, and my hope is to be part of the squad for this next one,” he added.

After playing a crucial part in Ghana’s qualification to the 2026 World Cup next summer, Paintsil is expected to make the squad for the tournament.

Meanwhile, Otto Addo is expected to announce his final squad for the tournament on June 1.

Despite the MLS champions’ difficulties, the former Tema Youth and KRC Genk player had an outstanding season with LA Galaxy.

In addition to helping his country qualify for the 2026 World Cup in North America, Painstil concluded the season as the team’s best scorer in the Major League Soccer.

Major League Soccer (MLS) action on Saturday saw LA Galaxy defeat San Jose Earthquakes 3-0 at Stanford Stadium, with Black Stars winger Joseph Paintsil scoring one goal and setting up another.

The 26-year-old Joseph Paintsil made his debut in the 37th minute, capitalizing on a pinpoint assist from Gabriel Pec to give Galaxy a 1-0 lead going into the half. His goal established the tone for Galaxy’s total control of the game.

Dejan Joveljic increased Galaxy’s advantage in the 72nd minute with a strong header, after Riqui Puig’s first effort had struck the crossbar. Mauricio Cuevas scored his first MLS goal in stoppage time to complete the match and secure Galaxy’s victory.

Galaxy consistently applied offensive pressure, with seven of their shots on goal, against San Jose’s six. John McCarthy, the goalkeeper, was instrumental in keeping the scoreless record against the tenacious Earthquakes team by making six saves.

The victory highlights Galaxy’s excellent play this season and their fourth straight victory in the Major League Soccer. With this win, Galaxy and LAFC, two teams with 40 points apiece, are still tied for first place in the very competitive Western Conference. Real Salt Lake, with 37 points, is not far behind.

As the Galaxy strive to hold onto their top spot in the Western Conference rankings and pursue more success in the MLS season, supporters should expect Paintsil and the squad to continue turning in outstanding performances.

A late goal from eventual champions Royal Antwerp caused KRC Genk to forfeit the Belgian league title, which led Black Stars winger Joseph Painstil to have a disappointing season.

When Toby Alderweireld, a former defender for Tottenham Hotspur, scored in extra time to win the championship for the visiting team, Genk was just seconds away from recovering the trophy.

Toluwalase Emmanuel gave Genk the lead just before halftime. As a result of the Union Saint Gilloise and Club Brugge match’s favorable outcome, Genk briefly regained the league lead.

Antwerp, nevertheless,

drew even following the interval thanks to Gyrano Kerk.

Although Simon Adingra scored early in the second half to put Union Saint Gilloise on top, Bryan Heynen gave Genk the lead once again.

With three goals conceded starting in the 89th minute, Saint Gilloise crumbled and handed the championship to Genk.

But Alderweireld’s incredible goal in the dying seconds gave Royal Antwerp its first championship since 1957.
