Despite difficulties, former Asante Kotoko coach Karim Zito has called his time with the team a great success. Midway through the 2024–2025 football season, the seasoned trainer took over as interim coach in lieu of Prosper Narteh Ogum.

The team won the FA Cup, Toyota Cup, President Cup, and Champion of Champions under Zito’s leadership. Before the current 2025–2026 football season began, the former Black Satellites was confirmed as the team’s head coach.

However, Zito quit his position after they were eliminated from the FA Cup after losing to Aduana FC at home. Reflecting on his spell at the club, Zito, speaking to Akoma FM, said, “Winning four cups in just 43 days is not an easy task.

“At the end of the day, I consider myself very, very successful with Kotoko. It wasn’t easy, but we made it happen,” he added.

Prince Yaw Owusu is currently serving as the interim coach of Asante Kotoko.

Following his exit from Kotoko, Karim Zito has been appointed as the head coach of the lower-tier side, AshantiGold 04.

Karim Zito says Albert Amoah should be a member of the Black Stars team.

After an outstanding start to the season, Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has backed forward Albert Amoah for a call-up to Ghana’s senior national side, the Black Stars.

The player was crucial to the team’s FA Cup victory the previous season and has four goals in five games across all competitions this season.

Zito, who insisted that the 23-year-old has earned the right to be considered for international service, hailed Amoah’s play and consistency following Kotoko’s 2-0 victory over the reigning Ghana Premier League winners Bibiani Gold Stars in Kumasi.

“You saw what he did and you are called into the Black Stars based on performance,” Zito said after the match. “If it is performance, I think Albert Amoah is on top; he deserves at least to be called.”

Amoah scored Kotoko’s second goal in Wednesday’s victory by curling a crisp effort into the net from the edge of the box, continuing his impressive run.

His second goal in three league games this season, the goal helped Kotoko keep up their undefeated start to the season.

Brandon Thomas-Asante of Coventry City was chosen by the technical panel to replace injured Inaki Williams of Athletic Bilbao, despite the former Accra Great Olympics forward being slated for a late Black Stars call-up.

Karim Zito, the head coach of Asante Kotoko, has commended his team’s performance in winning the 2025 Toyota Cup.

Over the weekend, the Ghanaian heavyweights took against the PSL’s Kaizer Chiefs at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Kotoko triumphed 3-2 on a penalty shootout to win the trophy after a goalless draw after ninety minutes of play. After the game, the seasoned coach thanked the players for following the game plan in a statement to the media.

“I am pleased with the result and also the performance of my players,” Zito said after the game.

“With the new players, I knew I was not going to get what I wanted, but I assigned them certain responsibilities, and I was looking at it,” he added.

Asante Kotoko arrived in Ghana on Sunday night and are expected to break camp before reassembling for the GHALCA Top 4 tournament, which has been scheduled for August 20-24 at the Baba Yara Stadium.

These games form part of their pre-season preparations for the upcoming 2025/26 domestic season and their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
