Wilson Arthur, the chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, has announced that the 2024–2025 competition season will see increased cash advantages for participating clubs.

Ahead of this weekend’s Round of 64 matches, he made this statement in an exclusive interview on Channel One TV’s Football Made in Ghana.

According to Wilson Arthur, clubs will gain more money from the competition than they did from the previous season, even if the committee is now experiencing a deficit.

“It’s been difficult bringing on new sponsors. Star Times used to contribute $80,000 for this competition but this season, they withdrew their support so we have a deficit but still this season we are improving even what we gave the clubs last season.”

The defending champions, Accra Hearts of Oak were defeat 0-1 by Dreams FC at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday January 22.

Agyenim Boateng’s only goal in the match was enough for to handle the Phobians exit in round 32 of the 2022/2023 MTN FA Cup.

Hearts were handed a 97th minutes penalty but Samuel Inkoom failed to make it account after two attempt.

Elsewhere, Legion cities were 4-3 winners on penalties against Accra Great Olympics after playing out a goalless draw.

Kotoko leave it late to secure a 2-1 victory over second division side Benab FC.
