Kwasi Sibo, a midfielder for the Black Stars, expresses confidence in the national team’s steady growth under head coach Otto Addo.

His remarks follow Ghana’s successful qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in the US, Canada, and Mexico next summer.

After the Black Stars unexpectedly failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the first time the side had missed the continental competition in over 20 years, Addo came under increasing fire.

There were many requests for his resignation after Ghana finished last in their qualifying group after six games.

However, the former Borussia Dortmund trainer redeemed himself by guiding the team to the World Cup, topping Group I with 25 points.

Midfielder Kwasi Sibo believes the Black Stars are headed in the right direction under Otto Addo.

Sibo, who made his senior debut against Mali, believes Addo’s leadership has fostered a strong sense of togetherness in the squad.

“One thing I’ve seen in this team is unity, and when a team is united and ready to fight for each other, it’s hard to beat,” Sibo told the Daily Graphic.

“We are very united, and I feel we are on the right track,” he added

Sibo has started all three games since receiving his initial call-up, helping the Black Stars wrap up their qualifying campaign in spectacular manner.

Ghana’s World Cup preparations will start later this month with international friendlies against South Korea and Japan. On December 5, the draw will reveal their group-stage opponents.

Kwasi Sibo, a Ghanaian international, expressed his pleasure after the Black Stars’ great 2026 World Cup qualifying start.

Ghana narrowly defeated Mali to earn maximum points at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday night, and the 27-year-old hefty midfielder won a late call-up to join the Black Stars. He immediately went into the starting lineup.

The hero was Alexander Djiku, who recently moved from Fenerbahce to Spartak Moscow, a Russian powerhouse, who scored the lone goal to seal the victory at home and increase their lead in Group I.

The 27-year-old believes that the team’s failure to qualify for the event, which will be held in Morocco later this year, was caused by the players’ individualistic play and lack of camaraderie.

“I watched the qualifiers, and what I realised was that there was too much individuality, but unlike the World Cup qualifiers,” Sibo told Asempa FM.

“You can see the bond and love among the players now for the World Cup qualifiers, but during the AFCON qualifiers, we did not see that,” he added.

After the horrendous performance in 2024, the Black Stars made s strong start in 2025, recording back-to-back wins against Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The team went on to place third in the 2025 Unity Cup games in London. The Black Stars will regroup in September for the Matchday 7 and 8 games against Chad and Mali.
