Beauty Abena Julius, Faith Ladies’ defender, and Jonina Ladies Comfort Yeboah of Ampem Darkoa Ladies and Matilda Bless Fodu both called the move a revolutionary step for women’s football in Ghana, emphasizing how it may increase competitiveness and motivation.

Beauty Abena shared her enthusiasm for the project by saying:

“This is a huge encouragement for us. It shows that the GFA and BetPawa truly value women’s footballers and are ready to invest in our growth. Knowing there’s a tangible reward for every victory will push us to give our all on every matchday.”

Comfort Yeboah emphasized the positive impact such incentives could have on player performance and the overall standard of the league.

“The Locker Room Bonus will make every game count even more. It’s not just about the money — it’s about recognition, fairness, and motivation. This is the kind of support we’ve been hoping for, and it will inspire both current and upcoming players to raise their game,” she said.

“The Locker Room Bonus is more than just money, it’s recognition for the hard work we put in week after week,” Jonina Ladies midfielder Matilda Fodu remarked.

We will be motivated to work harder on the field and make every game matter knowing that every victory will result in this reward,” she stated.

The GFA and betPawa have also received praise from other Women’s Premier League players for the Locker Room Bonus.

Players are rewarded immediately following each match victory under the Locker Room Bonus, which has been in place in the Ghana Premier League for the last two seasons. The program will begin on the first day of play and last through the 2025–2026 campaign.

The Access Bank Division One League, the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, and the Ghana Premier League will all fully adopt the standard player contract.

“This represents a landmark success,” said PFAG President Samuel Kuffuor, who enjoyed a distinguished playing career at the likes of Bayern Munich and Roma. “As the body for all professional footballers in the country, PFAG reiterates its commitment to ensuring a fair and consistent framework to safeguard the welfare of our members at all times.”

Benjamin Sesko Officially Unveiled as Manchester United Star

As Manchester United was held to a 1-1 draw by Fiorentina in the last game of their preseason schedule, Benjamin Sesko watched from the stands at Old Trafford as they won a penalty shootout 5-4.

Benjamin Sesko unveiled as Man United beat Fiorentina on penalties

Sesko sealed his €85 million ($98.8 million) transfer from RB Leipzig on Saturday morning by agreeing to a five-year contract with United.

Alongside fellow summer additions Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Diego León, he was introduced to the crowd on the field prior to kickoff. He then watched from the directors’ box as United rallied from behind to tie 1-1 before substitute Kobbie Mainoo scored the game-winning kick in the penalty shootout.

In the eighth minute, Simon Sohm headed in a corner from Albert Gudmundsson to give Fiorentina the lead, with David De Gea in goal.

Patrick Dorgu and Leny Yoro were both caught under the ball, and Sohm had plenty of room at the back post to volley past Altay Bayindir. He was picked again in goal, although André Onana is still out due to a hamstring injury.

Robin Gosens’ own goal gave United the lead halfway through the first half. When Yoro and Casemiro applied pressure, the Fiorentina defender unintentionally sent the ball past De Gea.

Gosens called for a free kick, but referee Sam Barrott waved the complaints aside.

A few minutes later, Yoro met Mbeumo’s cross from the right, but De Gea parried the Frenchman’s close-range header to keep United from taking the lead.

The Old Trafford crowd gave the Spaniard a standing ovation as he was brought on late in the game, marking his first return to the team since leaving in 2023.

Tommaso Martinelli, who took his place in goal, was unable to reach any of United‘s first four penalty attempts during the shootout.

Additionally, Mainoo scored in front of the Stretford End to complete United’s victory after Bayindir stopped Fabiano Parisi’s fifth attempt for Fiorentina.

Real Madrid had the mother of all meltdowns when the Manchester City star won the 2024 Ballon d’Or and became the third Spaniard to be honored with the trophy. They fully expected this one to be Vinicius Jr.’s.

Journalists from France Football and fellow French publication L’Equipe – along with a select number of former players – have banded together to produce a combined list of 30 official nominees, based on players’ performances over last season.

Following on from that longlist, one football journalist from each of FIFA’s 100 top-ranked nations will be invited to cast votes for their top 10 players, awarding 15 points to the top pick, then 12, 10, eight, seven, five, four, three, two, and eventually one point down to their 10th-placed player.

Of course, there are many notable recipients of the men’s Ballon d’Or prize, so it’s not just about them: Other honors presented by France Football on the same evening include the Ballon d’Or Feminin for the world’s best women’s player, the Kopa Trophy for the best young player under 21, the Gerd Muller Trophy for the world’s best striker, the Yashin Trophy for the world’s best goalkeeper, and the Socrates Award for a football player’s contribution to society.
