Carlos Queiroz Arrives in Ghana Ahead of Official Black Stars Unveiling

Newly appointed Ghana national football team head coach Carlos Queiroz has arrived in Ghana ahead of his official unveiling scheduled for Thursday, April 23.

The experienced tactician touched down at the Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday evening, where he was received by officials ahead of the next stage of his appointment as Ghana’s senior national team coach.

Queiroz is expected to spend the night at a hotel in Accra before addressing the media at a press conference scheduled to take place at the Alisa Hotel on Thursday afternoon.

The Ghana Football Association Executive Council, in consultation with key stakeholders, confirmed the appointment of Queiroz last week as the new head coach of the Black Stars. He replaces Otto Addo, who previously led the team.

The Portuguese coach brings a wealth of experience to the role, having worked with some of the biggest teams in world football. During his career, he has served as a manager or assistant coach for clubs and national teams including Real Madrid CF, Manchester United FC, Portugal national football team, and Iran national football team.

Queiroz will be tasked with leading Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and United States.

The veteran manager also boasts significant World Cup experience. He helped guide Portugal to the knockout stage at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and later managed Iran at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups, gaining recognition for building disciplined and competitive teams.

Despite the expectations surrounding his appointment, sources indicate that there is no immediate pressure on Queiroz as he begins his tenure. His main focus will be preparing the Black Stars for the upcoming global tournament in June, where Ghana will aim to make a strong impact on the world stage.
