Even though the game was entertaining, Chelsea, the winners of the Club World Cup, couldn’t have been more American if they tried.

Michael Buffer prior to the game, a halftime performance, and, finally, Donald Trump (who received jeers when he took the field) hoisting the trophy among the players.

It brought to mind Super Bowls, where the owners of the teams get to raise the Club World Cup trophy in front of the players who have devoted their life to it. Unfortunately, politics enjoys exploiting sport for its own purposes, and witnessing Trump and the hideous Gianni Infantino capitalize on the players’ success served as a terrible reminder of that.

It looks like Trump was supposed to hand over the medals and the trophy and then retire – but he stuck around and will now be immortalised in the memories of this glorious moment. And to think John Terry was getting stick in 2012!

Chelsea players pick up awards after trophy win

There was much to enjoy from the ceremony aside from one regrettable moment. Cole Palmer received his best player award, Robert Sanchez received his golden glove for best goalie after overcoming some serious criticism, and numerous other team members contributed to this incredible and rather surprising victory.

Blues group finally get hugely deserved rest

Now, finally, almost a full year after starting their European campaign against Servette, this group get a break. We hope they enjoy it – the Premier League is back in a month’s time, and this season is going to be just as long and intense as the last one.

Oh and it has a World Cup at the end of it – so this likely isn’t the last we will see of Trump with a big FIFA trophy anytime soon.

Justice Blay Apologizes to Asante Kotoko Following Controversial Remarks

Despite having one year remaining on his contract, the club reportedly terminated the combative midfielder following the just concluded season.

Justice Blay

Early rumors suggested that the player was fired by the team mostly for disciplinary reasons rather than performance, and the team acknowledged this.

He further got into the details what truly brought the pandemonium and the conflicts between him and his teammates; Mohammed Camara and Kwame Opoku.

“I had a girlfriend who used to visit me at the camp,” he said. “Before I knew it, the same lady was involved with Mohammed Camara. We had a disagreement that led us to the police station, but I was advised to resolve the matter amicably, which I did.”

“After that, I had another, and I introduced her to Kwame Opoku. He used to talk to her, and before I realised, Kwame Opoku had snatched her from me,” Blay recounted.

“I approached him, and he denied it. Coach Ogum settled the issue, and even before Coach Zito took over, the same issue had to be resolved again. What Kwame Opoku did really hurt me,” he said.

Having reflected on what he said, Justice Blay has released a statement to apologize to the entire Kotoko fraternity for his comments earlier and added that the club made him and will forever have them at heart

Executive Council approves the Football Academy Licensing Regulations 2025

The GFA Registered Football Academy Licensing Regulations 2025, which will control the licensing, regulation, and operations of football academies throughout the nation, have been approved by the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council.

Executive Council Approves 2025 Football Academy Licensing Regulations

The rule, which takes effect immediately, enables clubs that now use the name “Academy” a year to comply with the standards. If they don’t comply with the regulations after this time, they will be forced to alter their name to Football Clubs.

Clubs that want to run an academy must fulfill stringent conditions and undergo inspection in accordance with the GFA Registered Football Academy Licensing Regulations 2025 before they can be approved to run football academies in Ghana.

The Football Academy Licensing Regulations provide a platform and an opportunity for young boys and girls (6-18 years) to play football by inculcating professionalism amongst intending elite football players.

The new regulations also seek to create a safe and secure learning environment leading to self-knowledge on fair play, laws of the game, health and fitness, leadership and tactics in an enjoyable manner.

The overall objective is to foster the holistic player development approach through the implementing the GFA Talent Identification and Development programme.

The Regulations also applies to Beach Soccer and Futsal Academies for boys and girls.

The Regulation takes due cognisance of the provisions of the Children’s Act, the FIFA and the GFA Safeguarding Regulations and creates modalities and strict conditions for authorisation of international travels for academies and young players. Under this regulation, only clubs (companies) may own academies after going through the strict inspection regime.

The list of licensed academies in Ghana will be published on the GFA website. The Academies approved under the regulations will be issued a licence that will be reviewed and renewed on yearly basis to ensure the maintenance of regulatory standards.

The Academy Regulation is also aimed at streamlining the system to weed out unapproved and inappropriate establishments from the football ecosystem.

As part of this regulation, all licenced academies will play in the leagues in their football districts to promote competitiveness and full player development.

This regulation will be fully enforced to streamline and regulate the running of Football Academies in the country.

The Association will in the coming days hold a meeting on the subject and open the application process to its members.

Bawumia hails Mohammed Kudus’ £55m move to Tottenham Hotspur

If confirmed, the deal will be the first direct transfer between the two London rivals since Scott Parker’s 2011 move from West Ham to Spurs.

After moving from Ajax to West Ham in 2023, Kudus immediately adjusted to life in the Premier League and won over supporters with his speed, flair, and versatility on the offensive front.

Dr. Bawumia, a known Tottenham supporter, took to the social media platform X to share his enthusiasm, writing:
“I am excited to see our Ghanaian starboy make this move to my @SpursOfficial. All the best in your medical @KudusMohammedGH.”

He was a major target for numerous elite clubs because of his impressive accomplishments in his debut season.

Aliyu Zubair Optimistic as Nigeria U20 Face Ghana in WAFU B Showdown

While acknowledging that his squad had to undertake last-minute preparations for the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship, Aliyu Zubair, head coach of Nigeria’s U20 national team, is nevertheless confident in his side’s ability to play their archrivals Ghana in the tournament’s opening match.

WAFU B: Nigeria U20 Coach Aliyu Zubair Confident Ahead of Ghana Clash Despite Late Preparations

On Thursday, July 10, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, the Flying Eagles and Black Satellites will square off in a much-anticipated Group A match. The kickoff time is set at 15:00 GMT.

Coach Zubair said during the official pre-match press conference that the team’s build-up to the competition was subpar because they initially concentrated on FIFA U20 World Cup preparations.

“We’re ready, but it’s really not the competition we were originally preparing for,” Zubair said. “We reconvened just a week ago because we had initially planned to regroup ahead of the World Cup. But we had to quickly reorganize because of this tournament. However, we are ready.”

Despite the time constraints, Zubair remains confident in the experience and mentality of his squad. He underscored the special nature of Ghana-Nigeria football ties, describing the rivalry as a constant source of motivation.

“We know the history between Ghana and Nigeria,  it’s always intense at every level,” he noted. “Even if it’s community football, anywhere in the world, it’s always attractive because of the clean and fierce rivalry.”

After winning the most recent WAFU U20 Championship in Togo, where they defeated Ghana in the championship match, Nigeria comes into the competition as the reigning champions. That rivalry will be reignited in the forthcoming match, as both sides aim to start well in a group that also includes Benin.

Since Group A only consists of three teams, every outcome will be important in deciding the semi-finalists. The encounter on Thursday is more than simply a group-stage game for Zubair and his Flying Eagles; it’s a chance to establish their supremacy and carry on their tradition in West African youth football.

Tottenham to Sign Mohammed Kudus in £55m Deal from West Ham

Ghana Black Stars and West Ham United player Mohammed Kudus is set to complete a move from West Ham to Tottenham. There is an agreement in place between these two clubs, and the deal will be around £55 million ($75m).

David Ornstein reported that Mohammed Kudus has been a target for Tottenham ever since their new manager took over the coaching job. According to David’s report, the 24-year-old Ghanaian is scheduled to have a medical at his new club on Thursday ahead of signing a six-year deal.

Mohammed Kudus is set to join Tottenham

Tottenham’s new manager, Thomas Frank, is currently working on strengthening his squad for the new challenge ahead or before their preseason fixtures start.

Thomas Frank’s new club has been working hard to get their man. A Premier League and Champions League victory bonus has been inserted into Kudus’ contract in order to get it over the line, according to reports. That negotiation, coupled with a hefty £55m transfer fee, has allowed the north London club to pin down the versatile attacking midfielder days before the start of pre-season.

The Athletic claim Kudus might not necessarily have been Frank’s first choice, but he will welcome the transfer because he loves players who are versatile. The Ghanaian can play on the wings or as a No.10.

Kwasi Sibo Declares Readiness for Black Stars Call-Up

The 27-year-old believes that the team’s failure to qualify for the event, which will be held in Morocco later this year, was caused by the players’ individualistic play and lack of camaraderie.

“I watched the qualifiers, and what I realised was that there was too much individuality, but unlike the World Cup qualifiers,” Sibo told Asempa FM.

“You can see the bond and love among the players now for the World Cup qualifiers, but during the AFCON qualifiers, we did not see that,” he added.

After the horrendous performance in 2024, the Black Stars made s strong start in 2025, recording back-to-back wins against Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The team went on to place third in the 2025 Unity Cup games in London. The Black Stars will regroup in September for the Matchday 7 and 8 games against Chad and Mali.
