Following his excellent performance, Sibo insists he is well prepared to honor a call-up for the Black Stars.

“I am ready to play for the Black Stars,” he told Asempa FM.

“I played competitively last season, and I played a key role in our qualification to the La Liga next season.

“I am competing with some best players at Real Oviedo, and if you look at my performance last season, I am ready to play for the Black Stars,” he added.

Jordan Ayew, captain of the Black Stars, acknowledged that although Ghana wanted to win the Unity Cup, the team didn’t succeed in doing so.

The Gtech Community Stadium in London hosted a four-nation competition in which the four-time African champions competed. Ghana lost to bitter rivals Nigeria 2-1 in the semifinals to start the campaign.

We wanted to win Unity Cup - Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew

The Black Stars bounced back from the early setback with a strong showing in the third-place playoff, defeating Trinidad and Tobago 4-0.

In an interview with Ghana FA media following the tournament, Ayew acknowledged the team’s strengths while expressing disappointment at not taking home the championship.

“Obviously, we needed to bounce back stronger after the loss to Nigeria. I think we didn’t start well against Nigeria, but the second half was brilliant, just that we didn’t take our chances,” Ayew said.

“We have loads of positives to pick from the two games. We wanted to win the Unity Cup, but we fell short in the first game.

“The lads played well, we created chances, scored four goals and kept a clean sheet, and that is great for us,” he added.

The Unity Cup served as part of Ghana’s preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Black Stars are set to face Chad and Mali in Matchdays 7 and 8, scheduled for September.

Following the Unity Cup matches, Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew commended the new players’ performances.

Ghana took part in a four-nation competition at the Gtech Community Stadium in London earlier this month. Five players received their first call-ups to the senior national team, but a number of important players were removed from Otto Addo’s final roster before the tournament.

Jordan Ayew praises new Black Stars players after Unity Cup.

With a 4-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago, the Black Stars recovered from a 2-1 loss to Nigeria in their semifinal match to secure third place.

“The other players couldn’t make it, but in Ghana we have a lot of talent, and the new players showed their quality in the two matches,” the Leicester City attacker told the Ghana FA media.

“There is always a need for us to try some new players. We trained only twice before the first game, but the boys looked ready, sharp and confident in the game against Trinidad and Tobago and that showed in our performance.”

With the Black Stars set to take on Chad and Mali in the next round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September, Ayew also added that he hopes to see improvement in the performance of the team.

“Hopefully, we have all the players back in the subsequent games so that we can fight for the points in the World Cup qualifiers,” he added.

Ghana will make a trip to face Chad before hosting Mali, all in the Matchday 7 and 8 games of the qualifiers.

Following the postponed match against Nations FC, Basake Holy Stars seek points.

Following the cancellation of their Ghana Premier League match against Nations FC, Basake Holy Stars have formally written to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to request three points and three goals.

When Nations FC left the field during the league season’s penultimate match, it became a contentious event. The GFA claims that the issue is being looked into.

Basake Holy Stars demand points after abandoned clash with Nations FC

When tempers rose, Holy Stars had been handed a second penalty and were ahead by one goal. They had also scored from the penalty spot. After a brawl broke out on the field, security officers intervened, and Nations FC left the game.

Nations FC released a strong-worded statement accusing abuse later on Sunday.

The club claimed their chairman, Dr Kwame Kyei, was assaulted, fans were intimidated, officiating was substandard, and security was inadequate.

Since then, the team has threatened to leave the league, and Dr. Kyei has apologized in public for his investment in Ghanaian football. An already challenging season tainted by controversy—including the stabbing of Kotoko fan Nana Pooley earlier, which resulted in a league-wide temporary suspension—is made worse by this tragedy.

The unrest persisted even after changes were made in the wake of that incident, and Nsoatreman ultimately decided to leave the competition. It looks like Nations FC is about to follow suit.

Meanwhile, Basake Holy Stars are vying for the points, which could have a big effect on the race for the championship. A victory would have improved the chances for Nations FC, who are vying for their first Premier League title.

However, their decision to abandon the match makes it more likely that the points could be awarded to Holy Stars, or a replay could be ordered.

Nations FC and second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars are currently level on points heading into the final matchday. The GFA is expected to deliver a verdict on the incident in the coming days.

Ayew, who had several other chances throughout his hour-long appearance, was in the area again just prior to his second-half withdrawal but this time wasn’t needed as Lawrence Agyekum’s effort from a tight angle squeezed through the legs of Jabari St Hillaire, taking a deflection off the Trinidad and Tobago goalkeeper on its way into the net.

Simpson and Fuseini both scored their first goals for the Ghana Black Stars; the former made up for his own goal against Nigeria in the middle of the week, while the latter made sure his complete international debut went as smoothly as it could have.
