Napoli hero Scott McTominay wins Serie A MVP award

beyond finishing his first season after leaving Old Trafford with a Serie A title and the league’s MVP award, Scott McTominay shown that there is still plenty of life beyond Manchester United.

The Scotland midfielder’s pivotal opening goal in Napoli’s 2-0 victory over Cagliari on Friday, which sealed the Serie A title by a single point over Inter Milan, capped an incredible debut season in Italy.

When the game was over, McTominay collapsed to the field in tears.

“The sacrifice of every single player in this group is just incredible. The people deserve it, as they’ve been behind us from day one. For me to come here and experience this, it’s just a dream,” McTominay told DAZN.

In Naples he now goes by the name “McFratm” among supporters, a playful fusion of his name and “Fratm,” the Neapolitan word for “my brother.”

“My Italian is OK, I can understand, but speaking it takes more confidence and it’s not easy. It is much easier to do it with people who don’t speak any English. I can feel a lot of love,” McTominay said, adding that he just had learned the words “festeggiamo, andiamo,” meaning “let’s go celebrate.”

After ending his 22-year association with Man United with a £25 million ($34 million) transfer to Napoli last summer, the 28-year-old scored 12 goals in Serie A to be honored as the league’s player of the season following the final whistle on Friday.

Speaking earlier this month, Napoli coach Antonio Conte praised McTominay’s rise to prominence, highlighting his growing maturity and influence since leaving Man United.

As the season enters its last day on Sunday, the 32-year-old Egyptian is five goals ahead of Alexander Isak of Newcastle United and is on track to win another Golden Boot for most goals in a season.

When Liverpool hosts Crystal Palace at Anfield, Salah might even surpass the record of 47 goals scored by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole, who both accomplished the feat in a 42-game season. No player has ever had 46 goal involvements in a 38-game season.

Salah has the potential to become the first football player to win Player of the Season, Playmaker, and Golden Boot with six more assists than any other player.

According to deal insiders, the South African pay-TV behemoth is at the top of the list of potential media broadcast partners for the Ghana Premier League going forward.

SuperSport to replace StarTimes as Ghana Premier League broadcast partner

Although SuperSport has not yet made an official announcement, trade rumors suggest that the company is exploring the Ghanaian market.

If the GFA decides it needs to switch to a new and more reliable media partner, their performance on the African continent—especially in South Africa, Zambia, and Nigeria—makes them a contender.

Since negotiations with StarTimes broke down, in part due to financial issues and an unpaid debt of more than USD 842,000, the GFA has been looking for a more reliable and transparent partner.

The argument for SuperSport, a larger player with renowned production and distribution capabilities, is greatly strengthened by StarTimes’ obvious financial limitations.

Though no official word has been issued, SuperSport‘s re-entry into Ghana football now appears more certain than ever.

The GFA, eager to maximize the commercial attraction and media exposure of the league, could see in SuperSport a possible long-term ally who could guarantee on both fronts.

Partey shared that he would have been a painter if his dreams of becoming a footballer had failed.

The Ghana international is enjoying an outstanding campaign with Arsenal in England, having made over 40 appearances across all competitions this season.

A game between the Porcupine Warriors and Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium twenty-four years ago claimed the life of 126 persons.

It was Africa’s and the nation’s largest football disaster, leaving a sour legacy in the sport’s history.

In remembrance of the day, Kotoko posted: “24 years ago today, a thick dark cloud engulfed our country, not from flames but from the tragedy of losing 126 innocent lives to a stadium disaster. As we observe this day in grief, we will continue to mourn our fallen sons and daughters and forever stand against any form of violence at our match venues.”

The Reds, who have established their stance against hooliganism, lost a fan early this year following their game against Nsoatreman FC.

Hearts of Oak also took to social media to post: “Rivals on the pitch, united in grief. Today, we pause to honour those we lost on that tragic day. Gone but never forgotten. 24 years on, their memory lives in every kick, every chant, every moment of silence. Drop a heart if you remember. “
