Otto Addo

During his first stint with the Ghana national team, Black Stars coach Otto Addo has acknowledged that learning to control his emotions has been a crucial lesson.

Addo, who was previously a talent coach at Borussia Dortmund, was given the vital responsibility of coaching Ghana against Nigeria in a 2022 World Cup qualifying playoff. He led the team through the tournament after leading them to World Cup qualification, but he resigned when the Black Stars failed to go past the group stage.

After enduring criticism from disgruntled supporters, Addo has since made a comeback as the permanent head coach, displaying a more collected and resilient manner. His enhanced output has also resulted in a considerable decrease in the negative feedback he received.

In light of his personal development, Addo credits his advancement to guidance and support from his family as well as the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

“I don’t know if that [first stint] was different but actually my mother talked a lot to me about managing my emotions, even if I didn’t like certain things or questions. To be honest, some questions are a little bit, I don’t know,” he shared with 3Sports.
“But my family helps me handle this and stay calm. I’ve also been talking to the FA president and the Communications Director, who also give me good advice. I think I’ve learned not to be too emotional, even if there are questions I don’t like or if they are personal. I generally don’t listen to all the comments or insults. I just distance myself from them, which keeps me calm,” he added.

After suffering early defeats in friendlies against Nigeria (2-1) and Uganda (2-2), Ghana’s victories over Mali and the Central African Republic have reignited dreams of qualifying for their sixth World Cup.

Otto Addo wants to create history by taking Ghana to yet another international showcase while concentrating on leading the Black Stars to victory in the impending difficulties.

FC Lorient has exercised their buy option on the Ghanaian defender, Nathaniel Adjei, making him the most expensive player in the history of the Swedish Allsvenskan.

During the January transfer window, Adjei came to the Orange lads on a loan from Hammarby IF of the Swedish Allsvenskan.

The contract featured a buyout requirement in the event that FC Lorient continued to play at the highest level.

Due to the financial commitment, FC Lorient was allegedly considering giving up its option to sign the 21-year-old defender after being demoted to Ligue 2.

The club from Brittany exercised their purchase option on Thursday; it was scheduled to expire on June 15, 2024.

With a further €2 million in bonuses, the option is valued at about €5.1 million, making the deal’s overall package at €7.1 million.

Thus, Adjei becomes the most costly defender in Allsvenskan history.

He won over the supporters of Stade du Moustoir with his exceptional performances ever since he joined the team.

Adjei, who played for the team for 15 games, only missed the last day of play because of an injury.

The dynamic guardsman was sidelined for Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic due to the injury.

Laurent Koscielny, a former captain of Arsenal, has been named Sporting Director of the team.

The 38-year-old, who retired from professional play in 2022, spent the previous season coaching the team’s under-17 squad before taking on the role.

As part of FC Samartex’s coronation celebration, Ghanaian artist Stonebwoy is scheduled to perform at the Samreboi Police Station Roundabout.

To celebrate the club’s historic accomplishment in Ghana’s premier league, additional performers, including the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Artiste of the Year, will be present.

FC Samartex defeated Great Olympics 1-0 in week 32 to secure the Ghana Premier League title for the 2023–2024 campaign.

With 58 points, the Samreboi-based team won the league, earning their first significant title in the domestic competition.

Coach Nurudeen Amadu will be remembered as the first manager to lead the team to the top-flight league.

Stonebwoy’s performance, along with other activities organized by the club, aims to reward the fans and celebrate a successful season.

On June 11, 2024, Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku led a delegation of officials, Black Stars players, and technical staff members visited the “Heal Komfo Anokye” project, spearheaded by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

They offered compassion and affection to patients at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), encouraging and wishing them a speedy recovery.

The visit also allowed the GFA President and his entourage to witness and get firsthand information on the health facility’s rising issues.

The team’s visit comes after Ghana’s stunning 4-3 triumph over Central African Republic (CAR) in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, which propelled the country to the top of Group I.

Top officials from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital escorted the players and authorities on a tour of the institution, meeting with patients in a heartwarming manner.

Okraku acknowledged the enormous issues that healthcare in Ghana faces, expressing his personal experiences after recently visiting three additional hospital facilities, stating that the team has been moved by what they have observed.

“If you’ve had the chance to visit any health facility in Ghana, you will fully understand the situation in which we find ourselves as a country. Prior to these two games, I paid a visit to three medical facilities including the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital maternity ward, Maamobi Polyclinic and Madina Hospital. I left those facilities with different perspectives of life,” Okraku revealed.

“You had situations where mothers with fresh babies couldn’t go home because they could not afford to pay as little as Ghc200.” he reflected soberly.

The GFA President pledged the commitment of the Football Association to supporting the renovation of the biggest hospital in the Ashanti Region using the GFA Foundation as a vehicle to offer critically needed help.

“I think all the players and technical staff, who are all here, have heard the message. On behalf of the entire team, I want to assure you of our commitment towards honouring the call by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Everybody here is naturally an ambassador. We have our images as a potential avenue for use in supporting such a worthy course. We’ll never know who will be a beneficiary of this facility in future. It can be our good selves, families and friends amongst others. We have a lot of footballers who have used these facilities and continue to use them.

“We appreciate the call from Otumfuo, our father. He’s always been there for us whenever we have needed him. He has been our spiritual head. He has attended a lot of our games and he’s an icon we all look up to.”

“Through the GFA Foundation, we will play our part and the message will pierce through the hearts of many. This is a firm commitment that we’ll offer to this clarion call by Otumfuo. Actions, they say, speak louder than words, and football will speak with a much louder voice. Our presence here confirms our commitment. We’ll confirm and affirm our support to the project, in due course.” he concluded.

Jordan Ayew

Crystal Palace, an English club, lauded Jordan Ayew for his incredible hat trick in Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic on Monday night.

The 32-year-old forward scored his second international hat-trick at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, helping the Black Stars to a thrilling 4-3 victory on match day four of the qualifiers.

Crystal Palace celebrated Jordan Ayew’s outstanding performance on their official X page, writing, “Jordan Ayew .” “A hat-trick and a win,” accompanied by three applauding emojis and the Ghana flag.

The Crystal Palace attacker scored in the sixth, 60th, and 69th minutes to help Ghana win and go to the top of the group in the qualifiers’ fourth encounter.

Ayew’s first hat trick for Ghana occurred in a pre-World Cup friendly against South Korea in 2014.

Jordan Ayew came on as a sixth-minute substitute for the injured Majeed Waris in that friendly and made an immediate impression.

He scored just five minutes later, converting a cross from his brother Andre Ayew.

He added a long-range shot in the 53rd minute and finished his hat trick in the 89th minute with a poacher’s finish in the box.

This latest feat helped the four-time African champions secure their second consecutive win under Coach Otto Addo.

By earning spots in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Rose Yeboah and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu have created history and demonstrated Ghana’s growing track and field prowess.

Rose Yeboah qualified for the 2024 Olympics by setting a new national record in the women’s high jump with a remarkable leap of 1.97 meters. She also won the 2024 NCAA D1 national title in high jump, making history as the first female athlete from Ghana to win this esteemed title.

Abdul-Rasheed Saminu achieved a noteworthy feat by meeting the Olympic Qualifying Standard Time in the 200-meter dash. In addition to breaking the program record with a time of 20.12 seconds, he qualified to compete for Ghana at the Olympics. Saminu also had an outstanding performance in the 100-meter dash, coming in fifth place in 10.02 seconds, his personal best time without the wind.

At the NCAA Championship Meet, Saminu won two First Team All-American awards in less than 45 minutes, helping the University of South Florida (USF) celebrate a fantastic year. His achievements brought an incredible year of success for USF to an end, one that saw a record number of athletes advance to the NCAA Semifinals and the team win its first-ever men’s and women’s conference titles.

“Yesterday capped off a great year for our program, and I am very proud of the effort given by our teams,” said Erik Jenkins, USF’s Director of Cross Country and Track & Field. “That effort has produced two Men’s AAC team championships, program-best finishes for our women’s team in the AAC championship, multiple school records, numerous All-American accolades, and a second consecutive top-30 finish for our men at the NCAA Outdoor Championship.”

Saminu was third in the NCAA Championship final and ran a mark in the 200-meter dash that qualified him for the Olympics (20.12 seconds). His previous performance in the 100-meter dash, where he placed fifth in 10.02 seconds, demonstrated his versatility and quickness.

Saminu’s roommate Goodness Iredia completed the scoring for USF with a seventh-place finish in the long jump (7.86 meters), giving the men’s team 12 points and a 26th-place overall result in the NCAA Championship Meet.

The accomplishments of Abdul-Rasheed Saminu and Rose Yeboah not only strengthen Ghana’s standing in international athletics but also serve as an example for upcoming generations of athletes. Their commitment and accomplishments continue to be a source of pride for their country and the organizations they represent as they get ready for Paris 2024.
