KF Egnatia Rrogozhinë plans to name their stadium after Raphael Dwamena.

The president of KF Egnatia Rrogozhinë, Agim Demrozi, has declared that Raphael Dwamena will be the namesake of their stadium, which is now under construction.

In December 2022, the former Ghana international signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with the Albanian team as a free agent, which was then extended to two years.

But in November, the gifted attacker passed away after collapsing on the field during a league match for the Albanian team.

In the twenty-third minute of his team’s league encounter against Partizani, the 28-year-old passed out. He was brought to the hospital right away.

However, Dwamena passed away before reaching the hospital, which is what caused the regrettable event.

Agim Demrozi also claims that the team would honor Dwamena by naming their stadium, which is still under construction, after the striker.

The 2024 Ballon d'Or Power Rankings

As the competition for the Golden Ball intensifies, who of the biggest names in the game are serious candidates and which are just pretenders?

Lionel Messi earned his eighth Ballon d’Or after winning the 2023 trophy in Paris back in October, after a season that saw him finally win the World Cup. But the world of football has moved on, and discussion is already heating up as we get closer to identifying the 2024 winner.

Even though European club competitions are now finished for the year, the race is still fierce. Most of the world’s finest players are participating in foreign events this campaign, including the European Championship and Copa America this summer, in addition to the typical ups and downs at home.

How much of an impact would those international events have on the 2024 Ballon d’Or race, then, after a year dominated by the struggle between Messi’s tournament glory for Argentina and Erling Haaland’s season-long dominance at Manchester City?

Meanwhile, could we see the first win from someone who plays their club football outside of Europe, as more and more of the game’s biggest names head to up-and-coming leagues in other parts of the world?

Samartex

Nurudeen Amadu, the head coach of FC Samartex, has declared that after winning the Ghana Premier League for the first time, his team will want to repeat the feats of Dreams FC and Medeama SC when they play in the CAF Champions League the following season.

Samartex won Matchday 32 at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex on Sunday, 1-0 over Bibiani Gold Stars, to clinch the title with just two games remaining in the 2023–24 campaign.

Anticipating to play in the CAF Champions League the following season, Amadu highlighted his goal of following Medeama SC and Dreams FC’s footsteps in CAF inter-club competitions.

“We’ll attempt to emulate Medeama and Dreams FC in Africa and see if we can accomplish their feats. If we don’t succeed, that’s okay, but I believe their actions should serve as inspiration for us to compete in Africa,” he told Akoma FM in an interview. In the remaining fixtures, FC Samartex will visit Karela United at the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex before concluding the season at home against Accra Lions.

Western Region

By winning the 2023–2024 Ghana Premier League, Samartex created history and became the second side from the Western Region to win the championship twice in a row.

As one of just three areas to win back-to-back titles with separate clubs, the Western Region now shares that distinction with Greater Accra and Brong Ahafo.

With this achievement, the Western Region of Ghanaian football gains even more credibility as a dominant force, as it joins an exclusive group of areas that have produced numerous champions in a row.

Previously, the Greater Accra region had done so twice: in the 1970–1971 and 1973–1974 seasons, with Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics, respectively; in the 2010–2011 season, the Brong Ahafo region did the same with Aduana FC and Berekum Chelsea.

In fact, Samartex 1996 FC’s outstanding success confirms the Western Region’s rightful place among Ghana’s most prestigious footballing regions and showcases the growing football talent there.

Real Madrid

Following their 2024 UEFA Champions League title victory, Real Madrid supporters will be dancing well into the night.

Los Blancos defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the championship game to capture their 15th European Cup/Champions League title at Wembley.

Even though the team had trouble getting going for much of the London match, they managed to win in the end, igniting joy in the Spanish city.

The team is scheduled to return to Madrid by air tomorrow, where they will take part in a trophy procession through the streets that will end at the famous Cibeles fountain.

Fans are getting early because the fountain is renowned for hosting Real Madrid festivities, such as the trophy lift for La Liga last month.

Thousands of supporters have gathered at the fountain tonight, with parties expected on into the early hours, in preparations for the formal ceremony tomorrow.

The team have a celebration planned for their hotel in London before the main event in less than 24 hours time.

Black Stars

A building project owned by Black Stars player Richard Kissi Boateng was bulldozed at Kasoa Millennium City by some purported land guards.

The former defender for Liberty Professionals and TP Mazembe claimed to have purchased property in Kasoa Millennium City that was adjacent to a mosque.

He claimed that he gave some members of the community use of a portion of his land for their Eid celebrations because he wasn’t ready to build on the property yet.

He clarified that he had to construct a wall around his property since the locals had later begun to claim ownership of the area.

Boateng went on to say that the land guards destroyed the wall and threatened to have him rebuild it, even though he had reported the incident to the police.

“My project is close to a mosque, but I moved to the area and completed the project before they built the mosque. When they first moved there, they needed a place to celebrate Salah (Eid festivities), and I offered my place,” the footballer told Ghanaweb.
“That continued for some time and they used to have prayer sessions there until they started claiming ownership of the land. Due to the way things were progressing, I decided to build a fence wall around it, but whenever I went there, I was confronted by one Illiasu, who claimed that they were now the owners of the land.
“I took the issue to the Kasoa Millennium Police, and we have been litigating it for over eight months. The police conducted a search at the Lands Commission and discovered that the land was registered in the name of 21st Century Real Estate, and they were the only ones who could prevent me from developing the land. I received permission from 21st Century to develop the land, so I built the fence wall.”
In the early hours the following day, they sent young men to destroy the new fence wall we had constructed, but we managed to apprehend one of the boys, who identified Illiasu as the one who sent them. The police were in the process of prosecuting the case until Ndego also appeared at the station, making some claims.
“Upon seeing me at the station, Ndego warned me against reconstructing the wall, threatening that if I did, they would demolish it again. He claimed he thought the landguards had given me the land, but what he doesn’t know is that I purchased it from the chiefs.”

Buri

Before the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR), Ghanaian winger Osman Bukari has finally joined his teammates in training.

Due to his recent transfer from Major League Soccer (MLS) powerhouse Austin FC to Serbian powerhouse Red Star Belgrade, Bukari was unable to participate in Friday’s first practice.

With Alexander Djiku remaining absent, 25 of the 26 players who were invited have already reported to camp as a result of his presence. Fenerbahce’s Djiku, a defender, is anticipated to join the team later because of an arm injury he had while playing for his team.

The Black Stars will continue their training on Saturday, June 1, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. The team is set to travel next week to face Mali on June 6, before hosting the Central African Republic on June 10.

Ghana is currently fourth in Group I with three points, following a win against Madagascar and a loss to Comoros.

The upcoming matches are critical for the Black Stars as they aim to improve their standings and keep their hopes alive for qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

Black Stars

Goalkeeper Frederick Asare of Asante Kotoko has stated that he wants to return Black Stars head coach Otto Addo’s trust.

After being called up to the Black Stars squad for the forthcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Asare expressed his thanks and delight to the Kotoko media in an interview.

On June 6 and June 10, respectively, Ghana will play the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, and Mali in Bamako.

Asare is the only Ghana Premier League player named in the 26-man squad for the qualifiers, and the former Accra Lions player is eager to prove himself.

“We have good goalkeepers. For me to be called to the national team and also his compliments to me is a great achievement to me and I’m truly happy.”

“For me to represent my country, it’s a dream come true. Going forward, I also have to do my best and repay the coach’s trust in me,” Asare said.

This season, Asare has made 17 league appearances for the Porcupine Warriors, having won the starting spot from veteran Danlad Ibrahim.

Black Stars

According to a statement from the Ghana FA, the Black Stars of Ghana will allow the public and media access to their training sessions as they prepare for two crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.

On Friday, May 31, 2024, the team will start getting ready in Legon’s brand-new University of Ghana Stadium.

This initiates a phase of intense training targeted at improving team cohesiveness and strategy optimization prior to the pivotal matches.

The Black Stars are under pressure to impress after earning three points from their opening two matches in the qualifying round.

The significance of the forthcoming matches has increased due to their defeat by Comoros in the second game, which will have a major effect on their prospects of making it to the USA, Canada, and Mexico in the 2026 World Cup.

The Ghana FA has stated that the first training session on Friday will be open to the public and media in an effort to promote transparency and interact with supporters.

As the national team gets ready for these crucial matches, enthusiasm and support are anticipated to grow from this decision.

The Black Stars will conduct a five-day training camp in Accra before heading to Bamako on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, for their vital Group I clash against Mali.

The open training session is an opportunity for fans and journalists to witness firsthand the team’s preparations and spirit as they aim to secure their place on the global stage.
