Laryea Kingston

Laryea Kingston has taken responsibility for the failure of the Black Starlets to reach the final of the ongoing 2024 WAFU B U17 Cup of Nations.

This was said in a statement he made available on Tuesday afternoon, following his resignation as the Ghana U17 national team’s coach following their 2-1 loss to Burkina Faso in the semifinal match on Saturday.

At his post-match press conference, Kingston tendered his resignation, which was later accepted by the Ghana Football Association. Before the team’s playoff game against Nigeria on Tuesday for third place, the GFA then placed his assistant coaches in control of the group.

“My position was clear then and remains that having failed to reach the final of the tournament, which serves as an automatic qualification to the CAF U17 African Championship and a route to the FIFA World Cup, I believe we fell short of our objectives, and as the leader of the team, I take full responsibility and sincerely apologize for letting down everyone who has been negatively impacted by this,” Laryea’s statement said.

Hasaacas Ladies

On Sunday, Hasaacas Ladies defeated Faith Ladies 3-0 to become Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League’s Southern Zone Champions for the eighth time.

The four-time Premier League champions required at least one point to win the Southern Zone title, and it took a Mukarama Abdulai double and Belinda Ofori’s second-half goal to defeat their opponents. Mukarama Abdulai scored in the 12th minute and added to his tally inside 26 minutes.

The Sekondi Ladies sealed the victory in the 59th minute with a stunning goal from Belinda Ofori at the Carl Reindorff Park in Dansoman.

Hasaacas Ladies now lead the Southern Zone table with 39 points after 11 victories, one defeat, and six draws in 18 Premier League games, securing yet another play-off final versus Northern Zone winners and holders Ampem Darkoa Ladies.

The Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League final will be held at the University of Ghana Stadium on Saturday, June 8, 2024.

The winner of the match will represent Ghana in the WAFU Zone B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers in August.

Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko won the Ghana Premier League double over rivals Hearts of Oak for the first time since 1987, winning 2-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday thanks to a brilliant brace from Steven Desse Mukwala.

The Ugandan scored a goal in each half to assist the Porcupine Warriors earn the most points and bragging rights.

Mukwala put Kotoko ahead in the ninth minute with a lovely strike past goalkeeper Kwesi Nketiah, before adding a second three minutes into injury time.

Kotoko defeated their opponents 3-2 in the two teams’ inaugural Premier League match in December 2023.

As a result, coach Dr. Prosper Nartey Ogum’s perfect record against Hearts of Oak remains intact, as his team moves up to ninth place in the rankings.

Hearts of Oak are now only two points above the drop zone, sitting 14th on the table with 38 points in what has been an extremely challenging season for the Phobians.

Kotoko claim bragging rights, with celebrations anticipated to last all night in the noisy city of Kumasi, while Hearts return to the capital empty-handed.

With only three matches remaining in the 2023-24 Ghana Premier League season, the Phobians face a serious threat.

Derrick Kohn, a German-born Ghanaian defender, won the Turkish Super Lig with Galatasaray following a final-day victory over Konyaspor.

Derrick Kohn, who joined the Turkish giants during the winter transfer window, contributed an assist in the 3-1 road triumph.

After 29 minutes, the former Bayern Munich youth star set up Mauro Icardi for the opening goal, which the Argentine doubled six minutes later.

Dries Mertens found Betran Kutlu for his third goal two minutes later. L.ouka Prip scored a late consolation for Konyaspor.

Galatasaray won the championship for the second year in a row, earning 102 points in a season that saw them go head-to-head with rivals Fenerbahce.

Fenerbahce finished the campaign with 99 points after thrashing Instanbulspor 6-0 on the final day.

Meanwhile, Kohn made 13 appearances for the club, scoring a goal and delivering two assists. He joined the Turkish outfit from German second-tier Hannover 96.

Laryea Kingston

Laryea Kingston has announced his resignation as Ghana U-17 coach, citing the team’s failure to qualify for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations and, by implication, the World Cup.

Burkina Faso defeated Ghana 2-1 in the semifinals of the WAFU B Championship on Saturday at the University of Ghana Stadium. A victory would have guaranteed their qualification for next year’s competition.

In a post-match press conference, Kingston expressed his displeasure that the squad did not meet their goal and ended the session by announcing his resignation.

According to Kingston, he had performed admirably since his hiring, first as an assistant before becoming head coach, but thought it was time to move on.

“After we came back from Russia, that’s when I decided that whether we win and qualify or not, I’m moving on. After this tournament, I’m resigning as the U-17 coach. I have made that decision already,” he said.

Kingston’s squad had dominated the group stage, defeating Ivory Coast and Benin, but faced a more difficult opponent in Burkina Faso in the semifinals.

Burkina Faso proved too strong, as Kingston acknowledged after the game. He cut an emotional figure as he announced his departure.

Manchester United beat Manchester City 2-1 in the Wembley to win the FA Cup.

United won, which means they will play in the Europa League. They finished eighth in the Premier League this season, 31 points behind champions City.

The Red Devils went ahead when Alejandro Garnacho scored from close range in the 30th minute. This happened after City defender Josko Gvardiol and goalkeeper Stefan Ortega got mixed up.

After nine minutes, Kobbie Mainoo scored a clinical goal to make it 2-0 to United.

Just before that, United had a goal taken away because Garnacho was offside when Marcus Rashford slid the ball home.

City got a goal back late in the second half thanks to Jeremy Doku, but United held on to win and get revenge for losing the FA Cup final last year.

With the win, the team, which came in eighth in the Premier League this year, has secured a spot in the Europa League. They were 31 points behind champions City.

There are also rumors that United manager Erik ten Hag is going to be fired soon because the team had a bad season in the English Premier League.

Even if United had won, they would not have been in Europe next season.

Some United players got down on their knees to celebrate on the field after the win, while others ran over from the technical area.

Here Is Why Inaki Williams Played With Glass Shard In Foot For Two Years

Ernesto Valverde, the head coach of Athletic Club, said that Iñaki Williams has been playing for two years with a piece of glass hidden in his foot.

During this time, the striker didn’t know that he had a 2-centimeter piece of glass stuck in the bottom of his left foot.

Iñaki found this foreign object while he was having surgery on Tuesday to fix a painful scar on his left foot. During this procedure, the doctors found the piece of glass that had been stuck in his foot for a long time.

In his Instagram stories, Iñaki posted a picture of the problem: the piece of glass that had been taken off his foot earlier this week.

Based on Valverde, this strange situation started two years ago when Iñaki stepped on a piece of glass while on vacation and hurt his foot badly.

Even though he had something stuck in his foot, Iñaki did amazing things, like breaking the record for most games played in a row and winning the Copa del Rey.

“Iñaki Williams has broken a record for consecutive games played and has won a Copa del Rey whilst having a two-centimetre glass stuck in the sole of his foot,” Valverde marveled on Friday. “It’s amazing, but it’s like that.”

Valverde further elaborated, “He [Iñaki] has given me permission to tell this story because it is worth telling. For a few months, he was reporting discomfort in his scar. He was undergoing treatment, and after the Copa del Rey final – on April 6 – he had an MRI, and he still had a glass stuck in the sole of his foot. When they stitched him up [two years ago], they left a glass of about two centimeters, and it was already approaching the bone or a tendon.”

The revelation left both the doctor and Valverde in a state of disbelief and laughter, as Valverde recounted, “The doctor and I started laughing [when we found out] because we couldn’t believe it.”

The 29-year-old has scored 14 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions this season and is ruled out of the final league game against Rayo Vallecano.

Ibrahim Sulemana Gets Black Stars Call-Up

Osikani TV can gladly confirm that Ibrahim Sulemana, a midfielder for Cagliari, has been called up to the Black Stars for the first time to play against Mali and the Central African Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Ibrahim Sulemana joined Atalanta’s youth team from Sunyani in 2019 after doing well in a number of trials. He moved to Hellas Verona in 2021 after getting hurt badly and Atalanta no longer wanted to keep him on the team.

In the next year, the defensive midfielder moved up to the senior team and made his debut in October, when they lost 2-1 to Salernitana.

The 21-year-old moved from Verona to Cagliari in July 2023. He played in 14 Serie A games and scored two goals. On June 6, Ghana will play Mali, and on June 10, they will play the Central African Republic. Their three points from two games put them in fourth place.

Sulemana’s addition to the team shows that Otto Addo believes in young players, as shown by the chances he has given players like Forson Amankwah and Ibrahim Osman.

To get into the starting lineup, the young player will have to fight his way through because players like Abdul Salis Samed and Baba Iddrisu have recently played central midfield.

Erik ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag warned his successor.

Even if Erik ten Hag leads United to an FA Cup Final win over Manchester City at Wembley, minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to fire the Dutchman.

In his first season at Old Trafford, Ten Hag won the Carabao Cup, reached the FA Cup Final, and finished third in the Premier League.

He has underperformed even realistic expectations this season. Ten Hag called it “crap” after the club finished eighth, their lowest in Premier League history, with a negative goal difference.

Ten Hag has slammed unrealistic club and outside expectations.“Let me be clear,” he told Voetbal International. “It has been bad. It has been crap. But despite everything, we are going to play an FA Cup final.”

He added: “Manchester United won the league for the last time in 2013, 11 years ago. But, still, they expect us to win every game while competing at the top. This club is not ready for that.

“We were supposed to start building something and we made the first steps last year, but then you find out how big this club is and that nobody is ever satisfied.

“Within the club people were satisfied, but outside the club there was noise by saying I won only the Carabao Cup, lost the FA Cup Final and finished third. Well, then you have no sense of reality. Other clubs had a much better squad.”

Laryea Kingston

The Black Starlets’ coach, Laryea Kingston, says their only goal is to make it to the Africa U17 Cup of Nations. They play old rivals Burkina Faso in the semi-finals of the WAFU Zone U17 Cup of Nations.

This is the first time since 2017 that the Black Starlets will be able to play in the tournament again if they win.

But Kingston says they are not going into the game looking for revenge because the Young Stallions knocked Ghana out at the same stage in 2022.

“Revenge? No! That’s not what we are thinking about,” he said after the team’s last training session at the Accra Sports Stadium.

“We have not been to the AFCON after our last appearance in 2017 and so we have a responsibility to return to the tournament. We are playing Burkina Faso and we’ll approach it as one of the games requiring a different mentality but not because we want revenge.
“We know this is a most important game of this WAFU Tournament for us and we have to give everything for it. But we are certainly not going for revenge,” he added.

Ghana hasn’t been to the U17 Cup of Nations since 2017. That year, coach Paa Kwesi Fabin led the team to second place.
