Andre Ayew, a Ghanaian international, has voiced his happiness after NAC Breda’s thrilling back-to-back victories in the Dutch Eredivisie.

In the week 24 match, which took place at the Rat Verlegh Stadion on Saturday, the former Black Stars captain began and played the whole game as his team easily defeated FC Volendam.

Ayew has played all of the minutes in both of NAC Breda’s victories, which highlights his impact on the team’s current performance as they fight to avoid relegation at the end of the season.

In December 2024, NAC Breda had won two straight league games before to his arrival.

However, the former Marseille, West Ham United and Swansea City star has taken to social media to celebrate the sides’ back-to-back win the Eredivisie, while shifting attention to their next fixture against Telstar.

“Back-to-back wins. Stadium on fire. One team, one family. Focused on Friday” he wrote on Instagram.

NAC Breda are one place above the relegation drop after 24 matches, accumulating 22 points.

Since joining the club in the winter window, Ayew has made seven appearances, but is yet to score or register an assists.

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations heat up, former Ghana national football team goalie Fatau Dauda has shown confidence in the team’s goalkeeping prospects.

There is still disagreement about who should be Ghana’s top choice at the world championship, with about four months till the competition. Dauda, however, maintains that there is no need for alarm, pointing out that the technical staff is keeping a careful eye on a number of goalkeepers who are playing well at the club level.

“I’m keeping an eye on several of our promising goalkeepers who are performing well. Dauda stated, “God willing, we’ll have more options,” suggesting that the handlers are sweeping the field to guarantee that only the best and most mentally prepared goalkeepers reach the final roster.

The goalkeeping department has been one of the most discussed areas of the squad in recent months. A section of supporters believes Benjamin Asare should head to the World Cup as Ghana’s undisputed first choice following his performances in the qualifiers. Others argue that selecting a goalkeeper with European experience could provide an added advantage at the highest level.

At the domestic level, calls have also grown for the inclusion of Hearts of Oak’s second-choice goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi, whose performances have attracted attention and intensified competition for places.

Head coach Otto Addo has already confirmed that Asare remains Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper after playing a key role in securing qualification. His composure, shot-stopping ability and command of the penalty area have earned him the trust of the technical team.

Ghana face a daunting task in Group L, where they have been drawn against the England national football team, Panama national football team and the Croatia national football team.

With strong opposition awaiting, the decision over who guards the post could prove decisive in Ghana’s quest for a successful World Cup campaign.

This weekend is the Women’s FA Cup quarterfinals, with four pivotal matches set on Saturday, February 21, 2026. As clubs compete for spots in the semi-finals, all games will begin simultaneously at 3:00 p.m. at various locations.

At the Kobby’s Astro Turf, Southern Zone leaders Hasaacas Ladies will take on Northern Zone leaders Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the main event. It is anticipated that the match, which pits two of the best teams in women’s sports against one another, would be hotly contested.

At the Tolon Astro Turf, Tamale Super Ladies take on Army Ladies. Supreme Ladies will play Jonina Ladies at the Bantama Astro Turf, while Samartex Ladies will host FC Savannah at the Nsenkyire Arena.

With semi-final spots on the line, fans can expect intense competition and high-quality football across all centers.

Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has urged COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu, the Inspector-General of Police, to assist in bringing justice to the case of Francis Yaw Frimpong, well known as Nana Pooley, a late supporter of Asante Kotoko.

During a meeting between the Ghana Police Service and the GFA leadership at the Police Headquarters in Accra, the call was made in order to discuss safety and accountability issues in football.

Early in 2025, Nana Pooley was slain during a Ghana Premier League game, shocking the football community and rekindling worries about spectator safety at stadiums. The matter is still pending more than a year later.

Okraku stressed the importance of bringing closure to the matter, noting that justice for the deceased and his family would reinforce confidence in the game’s governance and security arrangements.

He urged the Police to continue supporting the judicial process to ensure a timely and transparent resolution, adding that protecting lives at football matches remains a shared responsibility between the FA and law enforcement agencies.

The IGP assured the GFA of the Police Service’s commitment to maintaining security and supporting due process in all matters related to football safety.

A growing financial issue over the venue that will host Ghana’s second World Cup group match against England may result in the match’s cancellation.

According to the UK publication The Mirror, FIFA faces the daunting possibility of moving seven games away from Gillette Stadium just four months before the tournament starts.

The New England Patriots and New England Revolution’s home field will host a number of World Cup games, including the match between Ghana and England.

It will also host Norway’s encounter against France, Scotland’s first two World Cup matches against Haiti and Morocco, and a matchup with Bolivia, Iraq, or Suriname. In addition, the stadium is scheduled to host a quarterfinal and a Round of 32 match.

The municipality of Foxborough, however, has threatened to refuse to issue the required entertainment license until its security expenses are pre-paid.

Despite being about 22 miles southwest of the city and part of the Boston metropolitan area, FIFA’s sponsorship rules require that the stadium be referred to as “Boston Stadium” during the competition.

The dispute came into sharp focus during a town meeting on Tuesday night between members of the Foxborough Select Board and FIFA representatives.

Director of venue operations Kevin Clark and Boston 2026 host committee president Mike Loynd were questioned by board members.

Board chair Bill Yukna asked Loynd: “Is FIFA, who is going to be the licensee, are they in the end responsible if nothing else comes through on this?”

Loynd replied: “That’s sort of a broad question.”

Board member Mark Elfman responded: “It’s really not.”

Elfman added as quoted by the Mirror: “I gotta be honest with you, it baffles my mind that you guys are sitting here in front of me right now and how we still have no idea where this money’s coming from.” At the centre of the disagreement is an estimated $7.8 million in security funding.

Foxborough officials insist the amount must be guaranteed upfront, making it clear they will not risk taxpayers’ money on the promise of reimbursement.

Vice chair Stephanie McGowan stated firmly:
“We’re not prepared to issue this license unless everything is in place. I’m gonna tell you, this board will not issue this license.”

She further questioned: “How does anybody expect that we would do this for someone who’s coming into our town for 39 days, making all these demands, and then you guys are gonna go away. Then once there is no Boston26 … well, who are we gonna sue?”

Despite the hardline position, Yukna indicated that a resolution remains possible.

“We want nothing more than to be able to just sign on the dotted line and know that when the events start, our problems aren’t about the money.”

Ghana is Group L and will play England on June 23, 2026, in Boston.

Prior to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Black Stars will play their third international friendly against Mexico.

Before facing Germany in their second friendly on March 30 in Stuttgart, Ghana will play Austria on March 27 at Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna.

The game against Mexico is scheduled on May 22 at an unspecified location in the North American country.

The game will be used by both nations to better evaluate their teams in preparation for the World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

The time frame described above coincides with the end of most European leagues, such as the English Premier League and Spanish La Liga, which end on May 24.

Therefore, according to the FA, the team would be “made up of players from the domestic league [in Ghana], some U-23 players,” and “European leagues that [Black Stars coach Otto Addo] watches.”

Ghana and Mexico last played a friendly in October 2023, losing 2-0 to the Black Stars, who under head coach Chris Hughton were unable to muster a shot on goal.

Mexico will kick off their campaign against South Africa on June 11 before facing either South Korea, Czech Republic, Denmark, Republic of Ireland, or North Macedonia in the other Group A matches.

The Black Stars, meanwhile, will play Panama on June 17 before facing Croatia and England in Group L.

It is anticipated that Ghana will play “two other unnamed opponents” prior to the World Cup.

Captain Joseph Narbi scored the game-winning goal as Black Starlets defeated Division One League leaders Port City in a pre-tournament friendly, bolstering their spirits.

Minutes after kickoff, Narbi calmly slotted in what turned out to be the game’s only goal, capping off a well-executed team play. The early goal set the stage for a fierce match that put the Starlets’ preparation and organization to the test.

With relentless pressing and well-organized play, Port City put pressure on the opposition and demonstrated why they are atop Zone Three. The Starlets were forced to maintain discipline throughout the match as a result of their intensity, which offered the level of competition required to challenge the national U17 team.

The match forms part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Morocco in April. The technical team has prioritised competitive friendlies to sharpen match fitness and assess squad depth.

The Starlets are scheduled to play Semper Fi later in the day as part of a deliberate plan to give all players adequate game time and prepare them for tournament conditions.

Kurt Okraku, president of the Ghana Football Association, has praised Black Stars coach Otto Addo’s accomplishment of leading the national team to successive FIFA World Cup qualifying and urged for continuous support of the coach.

Addo returned to guide the squad through another qualifying campaign, and he is currently in his second tenure as head coach. After leading the Black Stars to the FIFA World Cup in 2022, the former Ghana star has since led the team’s successful campaign to earn a spot in the 2026 competition.

“The only Ghanaian to qualify the Black Stars for two World Cups is Otto Addo. Let’s honor and encourage him for that. “He did a good job,” Okraku told Asaase Radio.

As part of preparations for the global showpiece, the GFA has strengthened the technical setup with five new appointments. Assistant coaches Alain Ravera, Kim Grant, and Kim Lars Björkegren have joined the bench, alongside analyst José Daniel Martínez Alfonso and performance coach Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi.

The additions are aimed at reinforcing the team’s technical, analytical, and physical preparation as Ghana builds towards the 2026 World Cup.

Ghana will face Panama, England and Croatia in Group L.

I am the best coach to lead Asante Kotoko - Prince Yaw Owusu

Despite a loss in his first game, interim Asante Kotoko head coach Prince Yaw Owusu has stated that he is confident in his ability to guide the team.

After Karim Zito left, Yaw Owusu took over, and on Sunday at Baba Yara Stadium, he faced a difficult test against rivals Hearts of Oak. Baba Adamu’s header in the first half gave the Phobians a 1-0 victory.

Yaw Owusu acknowledged the threat the loss provides to Kotoko’s hopes of winning the championship in a post-match interview with the media.

“We find it hard to win the league after losing to Hearts of Oak,” he acknowledged.

When asked if he is the right person to steer the team forward, the interim coach replied firmly: “Yes, there’s no two ways about it.”

Kotoko, who have gone three games without a win, will look to bounce back when they visit Young Apostles at the Wenchi Sports Stadium in their Matchday 23 fixture this weekend.

Benjamin Asare pledges improved performance at the 2026 World Cup

Benjamin Asare, the goalie for Hearts of Oak, has promised to maintain his impressive play in order to help Ghana at the 2026 World Cup.

Asare made these remarks after putting on another strong showing in goal to assist the Phobian Club defeat Asante Kotoko 1-0 in Sunday’s Super Clash at Baba Yara Stadium.

Hearts of Oak ended the game with 10 men when Emmanuel Amankwah was sent off, thanks to Baba Adamu’s header in the first half.

Asare is committed to maintaining his strong performance from World Cup qualifying and friendly matches going into the competition, which is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

“I hope to continue these performances at the World Cup,” Asare told Asempa FM.

“It was a good game against Asante Kotoko, but we were determined to win and take revenge.”

He also clarified that his display was not influenced by the presence of Black Stars coach Otto Addo and the national team technical staff.

“Otto Addo and the Black Stars technical team had no hand in my performance yesterday. I was fully focused on delivering for the team, and I only realised after the game that they had come to support me.”

Hearts of Oak will look to extend their strong run when they host Berekum Chelsea in Matchday 23 at the University of Ghana Stadium this weekend.
