Gianni Infantino has been praised by Kurt Okraku, president of the Ghana Football Association, with being instrumental in the development of Ghana’s football infrastructure throughout the last ten years.

Okraku praised the substantial expenditures made at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, marking Infantino’s tenth anniversary as FIFA President, calling the development “an amazing story” for the Ghanaian game.

Many people refer to you as President. In his tribute, Okraku stated, “You are a true, true human being, which is why I prefer to call you brother.”

The head of the GFA stressed that FIFA’s support has been essential to the Prampram complex’s development of new fields, facility upgrades, gym installation, and exterior wall construction.

“Under your leadership, Ghanaian football has made lots of successes. We’ve relied heavily on your support for all the investments that we have made at our Technical Center in Prampram. We are so grateful,” he noted.

Okraku also pointed to the construction of the first-ever FIFA-standard Astroturf in Ghana’s Upper East Region, saying the project has given young boys and girls fresh hope to pursue their dreams.

“But for the support that you offered us, we are very much grateful,” he added.

Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has urged COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu, the Inspector-General of Police, to assist in bringing justice to the case of Francis Yaw Frimpong, well known as Nana Pooley, a late supporter of Asante Kotoko.

During a meeting between the Ghana Police Service and the GFA leadership at the Police Headquarters in Accra, the call was made in order to discuss safety and accountability issues in football.

Early in 2025, Nana Pooley was slain during a Ghana Premier League game, shocking the football community and rekindling worries about spectator safety at stadiums. The matter is still pending more than a year later.

Okraku stressed the importance of bringing closure to the matter, noting that justice for the deceased and his family would reinforce confidence in the game’s governance and security arrangements.

He urged the Police to continue supporting the judicial process to ensure a timely and transparent resolution, adding that protecting lives at football matches remains a shared responsibility between the FA and law enforcement agencies.

The IGP assured the GFA of the Police Service’s commitment to maintaining security and supporting due process in all matters related to football safety.

Kurt Okraku, president of the GFA, says his goal is to win the World Cup.

Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has stated that he hopes to lead Ghana to win the FIFA World Cup trophy.

Next summer, the four-time African winners will play in the USA, Canada, and Mexico at the 2026 World Cup.

In 2010, Ghana’s performance in the Mundial quarterfinals in South Africa was the best in the team’s history.

It would be a dream come true, according to Mr. Okraku, to lead Ghana to victory on football’s biggest platform when the tournament begins in June of next year.

My Aim Is To Win The World Cup - GFA president Kurt Okraku

“I want to win the World Cup. I want to win the World Cup. I’m going to tell the coach that I want to win the World Cup. That should be our vision,” he told 3Sports.

“Because you don’t go to war thinking about not finishing it or not coming out as victors,” he added.

The Black Stars will play international friendly matches against South Korea and Japan in Asia on November 14 and 18, respectively, as part of their preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
