Otto Addo

According to Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, Head of Public Relations and Strategy at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Otto Addo has the organization’s support despite his recent subpar play.

The Black Stars’ dismal showing in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifications has put the 45-year-old trainer under a lot of pressure and criticism.

After four games without a victory, Ghana is currently in third place in Group F with just two points.

Although some football supporters have demanded that the former Ghanaian international be fired, Armstrong-Mortagbe asserts that the GFA fully supports Otto Addo.

He did, however, issue a warning, saying that the Executive Council anticipates the playing body will improve in future games.

In an interview with Metro TV, he stated, “The FA gave Otto Addo a long-term contract, and based on his early performances against Mali and the Central African Republic, we believe there is potential for growth for the nearly three years he was engaged for.”

“With the support of the FA and the Executive Council, he continues to be in control even though our AFCON qualifying series hasn’t gone as planned.

“We expect to see improvements in our upcoming World Cup qualifiers, indicating that what happened previously was an anomaly, not a trend,” he stated.

Ghana will resume their qualifiers next week and will aim to qualify for the 2025 tournament in Morocco against all odds.

They will travel to Luanda to face Angola on November 15 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro, followed by a home match against Niger Republic three days later at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Mohammed Kudus must grow and learn to be a captain - Otto Addo

Black Stars coach Otto Addo explained Jordan Ayew’s selection as captain for the last round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifications.

Mohammed Kudus was elected team captain after Thomas Partey missed last month’s doubleheader match against Sudan. Alexander Djiku and Jordan Ayew were all left out, which led to harsh criticism of Otto Addo’s and the technical team’s choice.

Jordan Ayew will captain the team for the games, Otto Addo stated to the media Thursday after releasing his roster for the last round of games against Angola and Niger.

The 45-year-old gave an explanation for his choice, stating that Mohammed Kudus still has a lot to learn about being a captain and that the Leicester City attacker will be the team’s leader.

“I think Mohammed Kudu still has a lot to learn about being a captain, so Jordan Ayew will captain the Black Stars in Thomas Partey’s absence.”

Prior to leaving for Luanda on Wednesday, the Black Stars will set up camp in Accra on Sunday and conduct a number of training sessions at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars will be hosted at the Estádio 11 de Novembro on November 15, followed by a home match against Niger Republic three days later at the Accra Sports Stadium.

2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Nathaniel Adjei earns Black Stars call up

Ghana has selected FC Lorient defender Nathaniel Adjei for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Since joining the Orange boys from Swedish team Hammarby in January, Nathaniel Adjei has been spectacular. The Brittany-based guardsman was signed for €7.5 million, and it has been a wise move from the beginning.

The 22-year-old was called up for the Black Stars in anticipation of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger in recognition of his outstanding achievements for FC Lorient.

Adjei received a call-up to the Ghanaian squad for their two March friendlies against Uganda and Nigeria. But after receiving an ankle knock, he was forced to leave the squad.

Adjei is currently making the significant transition into the senior squad after previously playing for every junior national team.

Now, while he is in camp with the team, the adaptable defender will try to win over Otto Addo.

After visiting Luanda to play the Palancas Negras on November 15, Ghana will meet Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 18, 2024.

However, the Black Stars’ dismal performance in the qualifying stage puts them in danger of missing out on the AFCON for the first time in 20 years.

After four games, Ghana has a dismal AFCON qualifying season with two losses and two draws. They have only managed two points, which puts them in third place going into the last round of games this month.

To keep their prospects of qualifying for the tournament in Morocco next year, the Black Stars now need to overcome Angola and Niger, who have already qualified, and pray that Sudan falls to these same opponents.

Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, has selected a 25-man roster for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan.

Thomas Teye Partey, the team’s captain and star midfielder, returns after missing last month’s qualifiers against Angola and Niger due to illness. After impressive performances in the present Premier League and the CAF Champions League preliminary rounds, FC Samartex left-back Isaac Afful has earned his second call-up.

Razak Simpson, a defender for Nations FC and a midfielder for Asante Kotoko, has also got their first call-up.

The roster for the qualifiers also includes Ibrahim Sulemana of Atalanta and Ernest Nuamah of Olympique Lyon.

Later this month, the Black Stars will play their final set of qualifying matches against Angola and Niger in an attempt to make it to the 2025 tournament in Morocco despite all odds.

On November 15, they will journey to Luanda to play Angola, and three days later, they will play at home against the Niger Republic.

Ghana must win their games and hope Sudan lose against Niger and Angola to be able to qualify for the tournament.

2025 AFCON

Today, Black Stars coach Otto Addo will reveal his team for the last 2025 AFCON qualifying matches.

Matchday five and six will see the senior national team play their last qualifiers against Angola and Niger. Following a dismal start, Ghana is trying against all odds to get to the 2025 edition in Morocco.

On November 15, Otto Addo and his team will travel to Luanda to play Angola at the Estádio 11 de Novembro. Three days later, they will play at home against the Niger Republic at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Conference Room is anticipated to host the announcement at 12:00 PM.

Before a 1-1 tie with Niger in Berkane, Ghana’s qualifiers began with a loss to Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars lost 2-0 in the return leg in Libya after being held to a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium in the doubleheader against Sudan.

With just two points from their four games, the Black Stars are currently in third position in Group F, behind Sudan and Palancas Negras.

Only if Otto Addo’s team defeats Angola and Niger and hopes Sudan loses their last round of matches will they advance to the tournament.

How Black Stars Can Qualify For 2025 AFCON Tournament - Ibrahim Sannie Daara

Black Stars Can Qualify For 2025 AFCON

Ibrahim Sannie Daara, the former director of communications for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has asked Otto Addo to invite the top players to the Black Stars’ last round of 2025 AFCON qualifying matches.

On November 15, Palancras Negras will welcome the senior national team at the Estádio 11 de Novembro. Three days later, the team will play at home against the Niger Republic at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Sannie Daara has rejected demands to invite local players to the games, as Otto Addo, the team’s head coach, is expected to announce his squad.

Despite their dismal start, he said, the Black Stars are still in the running to make it to the tournament and will require the best players for the matches.

“We have to do anything possible to ensure that we qualify for the AFCON, so we have to invite the best players because we are still in the race for qualification,” he stated to Asempa FM.

“We can still go and win in Angola and defeat Niger since we defeated Mali in the World Cup qualifiers.

“We have the players and talent to do it,” he stated.

After recording two draws and two defeats, the Black Stars currently sit in third place in Group F. For Ghana to qualify, they must win their games and hope Sudan lose their games against Niger and Angola

In the Israeli Premier League, Mathew Cudjoe shines and scored his first goal.

On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Mathew Cudjoe scored his first goal for Israeli team Bnei Sakhnin after providing a hockey assist.

The 20-year-old, Mathew Cudjoe was playing for the team for the third time since joining on a free transfer three weeks ago. In the Israeli Premier League, Bnei Sakhnin defeated Beitar Jerusalem 2-1, thanks to his screamer from inside the box in the 54th minute, which extended their lead.

Obeida Darwish squared the pass inside the area after Cudjoe gathered it in the center arc and sent it to his right, where the Ghanaian young player hammered home for a two-nil lead.

Konstantinos Sotiriou had opened the scoring on 12 minutes with Cudjoe provided the assist for the goal.

Beitar Jerusalem pulled one back in the 57th minute.

Gideon Mensah opens up on failed Barcelona move

Full-back for the Black Stars Gideon Mensah has talked candidly about his unsuccessful five-year transfer to FC Barcelona, one of the biggest teams in Europe.

A breach of confidentially caused the possible move to Barcelona to fall through. Gideon Mensah was offered a loan to Barcelona in 2019 while still at Salzburg to serve as Jordi Alba’s backup.

However, the confidentiality agreement was broken when word of the deal emerged too soon.

Mensah was saddened as he considered the lost chance that may have molded his career after this led the transfer to fall through.

Mensah admitted to Flashscore, “I couldn’t help but think about the next flight to Spain.”

The word that Barcelona wanted me was all across Ghana the following day. In order to find out why I hadn’t spoken to anyone, I called my agency.

“He doesn’t know how the news got out,” the agent added.

Gideon Mensah has almost 30 caps for Ghana’s Black Stars at the international level and is presently a player for AJ Auxerre in Ligue 1.

Many European players will be benched for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

For the final two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger, Ghana head coach Otto Addo is anticipated to make major roster changes for his Black Stars.

Some players from the top European leagues will not be part of the team for these games, among other adjustments.

When playing for the senior national team, many of these players have not been able to duplicate their exceptional accomplishments for their clubs.

It is currently unknown which players will be removed from the team.

On Friday, November 15, 2024, Ghana will play Angola in Luanda’s Estádio 11 de Novembro.

On Monday, November 18, three days later, the Black Stars will play their last qualification game against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium.

With two points from four games, Ghana is now in third place in Group F, five points behind Sudan in second place and ten points behind Angola, who are leading the group.

The Black Stars have no control over qualification. Ghana needs to win its remaining matches and hope Sudan loses theirs in order to qualify.

Ghana would not be eligible for the AFCON for the first time in 20 years if Sudan were to draw.

Sam Johnson On The 2025 AFCON Qualifiers

Sam Johnson On The 2025 AFCON Qualifiers

For the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Angola and Niger, former Ghanaian defender Sam Johnson has suggested that local players be employed.

Before hosting the Super Eagles at Accra Sports Stadium, the Black Stars will play the Palancras Negras in Luanda to finish their qualifying campaign.

The former Hearts of Oak and Fenerbahçe left-back emphasized before of the games that it would be prudent to take advantage of the chance to test home-based players, especially because Ghana’s hopes of qualifying are in shambles.

He claimed that this would increase their confidence for upcoming competitions and expose them to elite continental competition.

“I really want the local guys to go and play in these last AFCON matches,” Johnson told Graphic Sports. “We could bring in local players and add a few foreign-based ones to give them exposure. It will help build their confidence and morale.”

Johnson, however, had doubts about the present pool of players despite his excitement for fostering local talent.

He acknowledged that it was difficult to find qualified players for the national squad because of the local league’s deteriorating standards.

“The question is, which of these players would you invite? Based on what I’ve seen, I’m not confident. Our league’s standard is low, and you can’t call up these players if we want to avoid heavy losses,” John remarked.

The former international bemoaned the local league’s waning popularity, blaming low attendance on the absence of strong performances.

Even clubs with sizable fan bases, like Hearts of Oak, were having trouble drawing spectators, he said.

“With the local league, people aren’t motivated to watch. Even Hearts of Oak supporters aren’t attending matches. When was the last time you saw Accra Sports Stadium full, apart from Black Stars games?” Johnson asked.

Later this week, Otto Addo is anticipated to reveal his team for the matches.

With only two points from their four games, Ghana is currently in third position in Group F, behind both Sudan and Angola. In the event that Sudan loses their next two games, the Black Stars hope to advance to the tournament.
