Otto Addo

According to Kessben FM, Otto Addo, the head coach of the Black Stars, and his technical staff have not received their salaries for the last three months.

After a disappointing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, Irish-Ghanaian coach Chris Hughton was replaced as national team coach in March 2024 by Otto Addo.

After nearly eight years, the former Ghanaian international left Borussia Dortmund to rejoin the Black Stars for a second stint.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) reportedly communicates directly with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to guarantee that Otto Addo’s technical staff is paid.

Under Otto Addo, the Black Stars had a miserable AFCON 2025 qualifying season, losing three games and drew three during that time.

The West African powerhouse’s chances of qualifying for the AFCON were ruined when they finished last in Group F after going six games without a victory.

For the first time in 20-years, the Black Stars will miss the Africa Cup of Nations after falling short in Group F. The last time Ghana failed to qualify for the CAF’s biggest event was back in 2004.

Otto Addo has been summoned by the Ghana FA for a crucial meeting on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

Many football stakeholders have praised the move, and many are hopeful about how it will affect the Division One League in the long run.

The Executive Council has given buses to nine (9) Division One League clubs in a major step to improve football development in the nation. Members of the Executive Council were present at the presenting ceremony, which carries on a promise made by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku at the 29th Ordinary Congress in Kumasi in 2023.

As part of the Association’s capacity-building strategy, buses were given to the beneficiaries, who represented the top three teams from each zone of the Division One League during the previous season.

The goal of this program is to ease clubs’ transportation burdens while encouraging them to give their best efforts. Young Apostles FC, who are currently in the Premier League, won Zone 1. Second place goes to Techiman Heroes FC. Third place for Victory Club Warriors

Zone 2 Winners: Basake Holy Stars – 1st place (Now in the Premier League) New Edubiase FC – 2nd place Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs – 3rd place

Zone 3 Winners: Vision FC – 1st place (Now in the Premier League) Okwawu United – 2nd place Hohoe United – 3rd place

So as to treat an injury he sustained during Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier against Angola last Thursday, Ghanaian international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku underwent successful surgery.

The Leicester City winger was substituted in the first half after sustaining the injury during the pivotal game.

Issahaku had to travel to England for additional evaluation and treatment as a result of being unable to play in Ghana’s last Group F match against Niger.

“Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu Issahakusustained injuries during the Angola match. Although Ayew completed the game, MRI scans in Accra revealed significant issues with his knee. Issahaku was substituted in the first half due to his injury,” a statement from the Ghana FA said after the Angola game.

Issahaku informed his fans on Instagram that his operation went well and thanked them for their support. Glory be to Allah Ta’ala. I just wanted to let you know that my surgery went well and that I’m doing OK. I appreciate all of your well wishes,” he wrote.

Issahaku’s successful surgery is a step in the right direction for his return to the field, and supporters and well-wishers are hoping for a speedy recovery.

Dan Quaye, a former Ghanaian international, claims that the lack of discipline among young players caused him to leave professional football too soon.

Considered one of the greatest full backs to have ever competed in domestic games, Dan Quaye concluded his playing career with the Great Olympics in 2017.

Before winning a big transfer to Hearts of Oak, a regional rival, the tough-tackling defender began his playing career with the Dade boys in 1997.

Before quitting, Quaye continued to play for other clubs in Ghana and beyond.

The defender returned to the Great Olympics to play for his boyhood club before retiring.

“I retired prematurely from football,” Quaye remarked in an interview with Bryt FM. I could have played for longer, but I had to stop because of the lack of discipline among the younger players.

I attempted to mold young athletes at the Great Olympics, but they lacked discipline and were not prepared to follow instructions. To protect myself, I decided to stop playing there. If I hadn’t retired, I might have behaved in an unprofessional manner.

He went on to say, “We should ask ourselves why Sulley Muntari left Hearts of Oak.”

The Hearts of Oak team that won the CAF Champions League in 2000 included Dan Quaye.

In addition, he played for the Black Stars in the 2006 World Cup. Between 2001 and 2006, Quaye earned ten appearances for the national team.

Laryea Kingston Explains Why Changing Black Stars coach

Following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), former Ghana U-17 coach Laryea Kingston has voiced her strong support for Black Stars coach Otto Addo and urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to withstand calls for a change in leadership.

In an interview with Flashscore, Kingston cautioned that the national team may suffer more defeats if Addo and the technical staff are replaced at this point.

Laryea Kingston Explains Why Changing Black Stars coach is not an option

“If we change the coach and the technical team and bring new faces, it will be a disaster,” Kingston said. “I think we should allow him to at least finish the World Cup qualifiers – who knows? Maybe he can qualify. And then after that, we make a decision as a country. So we should give him another opportunity.”

Following Ghana’s dismal performance in the AFCON qualifiers—where they only managed three points from six games and failed to win a single match—Kingston’s remarks come amid widespread displeasure.

On Wednesday, the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association will convene to assess the team’s performance and decide how to proceed.

Rahman

Baba Rahman, a Ghanaian defender, has talked candidly about his mixed feelings about his time at Chelsea, acknowledging that he is disappointed that his 2015 move didn’t work out as planned.

Rahman agreed to a five-year contract with Chelsea for an unknown sum that was first estimated to be £14 million but could potentially increase to £22 million. The left-back only made 23 first-team appearances for the Blues in eight years at Stamford Bridge, mostly as a result of numerous loan stints and a string of ailments.

Rahman remarked, “I am sad things didn’t work out at Chelsea,” in an interview with BBC Sport Africa. Due to my several severe injuries, I was unable to provide my best assessment because I wasn’t completely fit.

The 30-year-old cited Eden Hazard as the finest teammate he had while playing for Chelsea, but the person who had the biggest influence on his career was Dr. Paco Biosca, the former medical director of the team. Rahman attributes his decision to stay active despite sustaining a second ACL injury to Dr. Paco.

Rahman told BBC Sport Africa, “I owe them a lot because Dr. Paco was the one who persuaded me not to retire after my second ACL injury.”

Rahman came close to quitting football in 2019 after suffering his second ACL injury, having only just returned from another serious knee injury the previous year. “It had taken me 18 months to come back, and when the doctor told me I had another ACL injury, I decided that I had had enough,” he recalls.

“I told my family I was quitting. But Dr. Paco said that he had seen other players come back and promised that if I was patient and mentally strong, I could do it too. I slept on it and then decided I wanted to fight for my career.” Now, Rahman is grateful for the second chance football has given him, and is focused on enjoying every moment of his career. “I’m just trying to enjoy it to the last moment.”

Otto Addo calls on Ghana to Support Black Star to qualify for 2026 World Cup

Ghanaians are being urged by Black Stars coach Otto Addo to support their country’s efforts to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

The team’s 1-1 tie with Angola last Friday prevented them from qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), prompting this appeal for assistance. Addo is resolved to move on to the next challenge and is still focused on the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers in spite of the setback.

“I recognize that people may be upset or dissatisfied. He told reporters on Sunday, “I was disappointed too, but we must move on now.”

“The World Cup qualifiers begin tomorrow, and we must prepare as best we can.

“You [Ghanaians] must support us if you want us to go to the World Cup,” he stated.

Ghana is currently tied with Comoros, the group leaders, in second position in Group I of the World Cup qualifying campaign. Only the group’s top team will move on to the elimination stage.

In the future, the Black Stars will play Madagascar and Chad in March 2025. Addo is adamant on being the first coach to guide the squad to consecutive World Cup appearances.

Otto Addo

A prominent member of the committee that chose Otto Addo to be the Black Stars’ head coach, Ojo Addae-Mensah, has called for Addo to step down in the wake of Ghana’s exclusion from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

After Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Angola on Friday, November 15, Addae-Mensah spoke on GTV Sports Plus and said he was disappointed with the outcome, emphasizing that the coach should go because the team did not qualify for the AFCON.

“I believe Otto Addo ought to step down for failing to qualify for the AFCON. In response to mounting annoyance among football supporters and stakeholders, Addae-Mensah stated, “The least he could have done was to qualify us for the tournament.”

Ghana suffered a severe defeat when their dreams of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON were dashed by the draw against Angola. Angola equalized by a strong header by Zini in the second half, but Ghana was unable to maintain their lead despite a magnificent early goal by captain Jordan Ayew in the 19th minute.

Ghana’s final Group F match against Niger on Monday, November 18, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium, has become a formality since qualifying is now out of the question. With the outcome no longer affecting their position in the qualifications, the Black Stars will play for pride.

The upcoming match against Niger offers an opportunity for reflection and regrouping, but the focus will now shift to rebuilding the team after a disappointing qualification campaign.

After five games in the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers, the Black Stars have yet to win.

With a 1-1 draw against Angola at the 11th November Stadium in Luanda on Friday night, Ghana’s dreams of making it to the 2025 AFCON were formally crushed as the Black Stars’ losing streak continued.

With three draws and two losses in the qualifications and only two goals scored, the four-time AFCON champions have now lost five straight games.

With just three points from five games, Ghana is still at the bottom of Group F, meaning they will not be participating in the competition next year.

Following Nigeria’s unexpected 4-0 victory against Sudan, the Black Stars needed to defeat Angola and win their final match against Niger on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium. Ghana’s slender prospects of qualifying were dashed by the Nigerians’ resounding performance.

The game against Niger now has no meaning for Ghana because there is no possibility of advancement.

Ghana will miss the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in twenty-one years.

Otto Addo

When Ghana plays Angola in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, coach Otto Addo is focused on ending the Black Stars’ losing run.

The four-time AFCON champion Black Stars have lost two and drawn two of their four games and have yet to register a victory.

With just two points, the West African powerhouse is currently at the bottom of the standings and has little choice except to win their final two games and wait to see how their opponents play.

Ghana’s chances of qualifying for AFCON are still intact after Niger’s dramatic 4-0 thumping of Sudan at the Stade de Kégué in Togo on Thursday afternoon.

To increase their prospects of qualifying, Otto Addo and his team will try to surprise Angola in their home stadium when they play them on Friday.

The Black Stars must make sure they pick up as many points as possible in their final group games while hoping to defeat Sudan versus Angola the following week.

In the meantime, if the Black Stars lose to Angola, they might be eliminated from the AFCON tournament for the first time in 20 years.

The highly anticipated match between Ghana’s Black Stars and Angola’s Palancas Negras is set to begin at 19:00 GMT at the Estádio 11 de Novembro.
