Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have completed their preparations for their midweek Democracy Cup matchup.

The final training sessions for the nation’s two most successful clubs, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak were held on Tuesday in advance of the match on Wednesday, July 17.

The match is expected to be exciting and dramatic, igniting the passion of football supporters all throughout the nation.

The game is made more intense by the legendary rivalry between Hearts of Oak, also known as the Phobians, and Asante Kotoko, also known as the Porcupine Warriors, in Ghanaian football.

All eyes will be on Elvis Kyei Baffour, the new addition to Asante Kotoko, who signed a three-year contract lately.

Both fans and analysts are looking forward to his debut in this highly anticipated contest.

Parliament is hosting a game called the Democracy Cup to commemorate its 30th anniversary.

Watching the game at the stadium will be members of Parliament, including the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin.

Last season, Fatawu showed off his prowess with seven goals in 43 appearances across all competitions, including a spectacular hat-trick in a convincing 5-0 victory over Southampton at Filbert Way.

Ayew, currently a free agent, was not involved in the Black Stars’ recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. However, his words reflect a deep-rooted dedication to representing Ghana, driven by a sense of pride and honor rather than financial gain.

Gold Fields Ghana Ltd. will supply a cutting-edge digital advertising panel for this contemporary 10,000-seat stadium.

This creative touch has the potential to completely transform stadium advertising and improve the experience for both marketers and fans.

With its cutting-edge technology and dynamic display capabilities, the digital board seeks to enthrall viewers and provide an engaging platform for advertising.

“It stands at 90% complete. A lot of the items needed to finish it are in-country, we had to take our time on a few things for purely safety reasons and nothing else,” disclosed Goldfields Foundation Executive Secretary Abdel-Razak Yakub in an interview on progress of work done so far.

“We had to appoint somebody who would sit here and ensure that things are done the way that would protect all of us and also done to the best of quality.”

The stadium, which is currently 90% finished, is anticipated to be turned over to Medeama, a top-tier football team in Ghana, in time for the 2024–2025 season.

When the stadium is finished, the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Municipal government will oversee it, according to sources.

Andre Ayew gave a talk on sports psychology at the University of Ghana, where he discussed the difficulties and demands that upcoming national team captains will face.

“There will always be a debate sooner or later,” Ayew stated. “The next one who is coming, there will be another debate. The next one who is coming in the next 10 years, there will be another debate. Anybody who, tomorrow, is going to be the leader of our national team should be ready for it. There are things you just need to learn from, prepare, and let it brush off.”

The controversy surrounding Ayew’s captaincy of the Black Stars is nothing new to him. There was a great deal of discussion and controversy when Ayew replaced Asamoah Gyan as captain.

Thomas Partey has taken over as the Black Stars’ captain in lieu of Ayew.

As Ayew alluded to, the team will ultimately select a new captain, carrying on the custom of discussion and close examination that goes along with this esteemed position.

Ghana is aiming to qualify for both the 2026 World Cup and the next Africa Cup of Nations.

In an international friendly at the Go Go Kanazawa Stadium on Saturday, July 13, Ghana’s Black Queens were soundly defeated 4-0 by Japan’s women’s national football team.

The Japanese team dominated the first few minutes of play. In the second, forward Mina Tanaka almost scored, but Ghanaian goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan Findib made a fantastic save to save her from doing so.

Ten minutes later, Tanaka still threatened, striking the upright, but Findib produced another outstanding stop to keep the score tied.

But in the twenty-third minute, veteran player Portia Boakye was sent off, severely hurting Ghana’s chances. The Black Queens had to play with 10 players for the rest of the match.

Japan made the most of their numerical advantage, and just after halftime, Tanaka finally found the back of the goal thanks to a ball from Chelsea player Maika Hamano.

In the 65th minute, Hamano increased Japan’s lead, and two minutes later, Aoba Fujino added a third.

Ten minutes from time, Fujino switched roles again and helped West Ham forward Riko Ueki score Japan’s fourth goal.

Japan utilized the game as a warm-up before the Olympics, and Ghana used it to gauge how ready they were for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2024.

The comprehensive victory will undoubtedly boost Japan’s confidence as they prepare for the prestigious tournament, while Ghana will look to regroup and work on their strategy ahead of next year’s continental showpiece.

Núñez has not yet made any public remarks about the event. Images of Núñez scaling barriers and entering the packed Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, were obtained by TV cameras and spectators.

He could then be seen confronting Colombia fans as others tried to restrain him.

Uruguay captain José María Giménez said the players were trying to defend their families, describing the situation in the crowd as a “disaster”, Reuters reported.

He continued: “There was no police and we had to defend our families. This is the fault of two or three people who had a few too many drinks and don’t know how to drink.”

It took place following Uruguay’s humiliating 1-0 loss to Colombia in the round of sixteen, which kept them out of the Copa America final on Monday.

Players and coaches had argued on the field following the game, just before to the crowd disturbance.

Núñez began the match as Uruguay’s striker, however he was unable to convert any of his four shots on goal.

In June 2022, Liverpool acquired the forward from Portuguese team Benfica for a sum of £64 million. In his 65 club appearances, he has 20 goals to his credit.
