Hearts of Oak

Following earlier declarations by Board Chairman Togbe Afede, Hearts of Oak’s PRO Addo has affirmed the club’s intentions to construct a 25,000-seat sports facility.

The management of Hearts of Oak has been working hard to find appropriate land for this large-scale undertaking.

“The club is set to construct a mini stadium in Pobiman to cater to all our friendly matches,” added Addo.

He continued, “Moreover, we are committed to erecting a standard stadium for our league fixtures, thereby enabling us to vacate the Accra Sports Stadium for the National Sports Authority (NSA).”

The first stage of the idea is to build a small stadium in Pobiman that will be used just for friendly games. The team then intends to build a large stadium to accommodate league games.

With the help of this project, Hearts of Oak will always be able to play on their home field without having to worry about having to move games to other locations because the Accra Sports Stadium isn’t available.

The Pobiman training facilities that Hearts of Oak has already finished developing have been crucial in getting the club ready for matches in the Ghana Premier League.

The forthcoming stadiums are expected to significantly enhance the club’s infrastructure and boost its performance in both domestic and international competitions

Vincent Sowah-Odotei, a board member of Hearts of Oak, has reassured supporters that the team would be competitive in the forthcoming season.

A recent defeat against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko in the Democracy Cup has sparked anger and concern among the fans as the new season approaches.

However, Sowah-Odotei emphasized that the club is actively working to strengthen the squad.

“We are on track. It’s not a simple, linear process—many factors come into play. But we are managing all those factors to ensure that by the start of the season, we will have a strong squad that can make us competitive,” Sowah-Odotei said on ChannelOne Sports.

Derek Boateng

Former Ghanaian midfielder Derek Boateng has accused Spain of interfering to prevent the Black Stars from signing players like Nico Williams, accusing the Ghana Football Association (GFA) of losing out on important European-born talent.

Derek Boateng voiced his dissatisfaction at Ghana’s failure to draw players like Kobbie Mainoo, Jeremy Doku, Jeremie Frimpong, and Nico Williams in an interview with Accra-based Kingdom FM. He regretted that the GFA had not pursued these skills sooner.

“How can we lose players like Kobbie Mainoo, Jeremy Doku, Jeremie Frimpong, and Nico Williams?” Boateng asked, as reported by Ghanaweb. “Inaki Williams is playing for us, but why couldn’t we get Nico? Because he is good and talented, Spain blocked his chances of playing for Ghana.”

Boateng emphasized the significance of taking the initiative to initiate early contact with players living in Europe. He cautioned against waiting until they were well-established athletes because, in the event that Ghana was not participating from the beginning, their parents might not be amenable to a change in allegiance.

The 41-year-old advocated for a more calculated approach to developing young talent. He had a stellar international career with Ghana from 2001 to 2013, playing a significant part in the Black Satellites’ runner-up result at the 2001 U-20 FIFA World Cup.

Nico Williams, a standout performer for Spain, was a major factor in La Roja’s victory at the 2024 European Championship. His accomplishment serves as a reminder of the possibilities Ghana lost up on to gain from such up-and-coming talent.

Leny Yoro

Leny Yoro will miss three months.

Leny Yoro, who signed a deal with Manchester United this summer that may be valued up to £58.9 million, was forced off the field due to injury during the team’s preseason friendly against Arsenal in Los Angeles last weekend. The 18-year-old has a five-year contract at Old Trafford.

Following extensive treatment, Yoro hobbled off the field in the 35th minute of last weekend’s preseason friendly against Arsenal. He was later observed using crutches and had a protective boot on his left foot.

The 18-year-old defender chose to continue with the team while on tour, with more evaluation to be completed upon his return to the UK. He signed a five-year contract worth up to £58.9 million with United this summer, replacing Lille.

Hojlund scored a goal against Arsenal, however he was substituted in the sixteenth minute and will not be available for the season’s opening. Hojlund’s injury was not as serious as first thought, and it is not expected that he will return in two to three weeks.

Following a strong challenge that appeared to have injured Marcus Rashford’s right ankle, United had additional injury concerns during their 3-2 triumph over Real Betis on Thursday morning. Antony was also substituted off due to a hand issue.

Nico Williams

Nico Williams, a Ghanaian winger of Spanish descent who shone in the most recent European Championship, is set to sign with FC Barcelona.

The 21-year-old, Nico Williams who excelled for the Spanish squad that won the tournament, is anticipated to leave Athletic Bilbao in a high-profile transfer.

Williams, who came through Bilbao’s youth program, had long been eclipsed by his elder brother Inaki, who held a significant position at the Basque club. Nico is a vital member of Athletic Bilbao and a rising star for Spain, though, because to his outstanding exploits on the club and international stages.

Nico, who plays for Spain instead of his brother’s Ghana, was a key player in Spain’s victory at the European Championship. He scored in the championship game. Top European clubs are vying for his signature due to his technical skill and explosive play. FC Barcelona is leading the battle.

Even with its financial difficulties, Barcelona is committed on signing Williams. Marca reports that the winger has informed close acquaintances of his choice already, and that an official statement is expected in the coming two weeks.

The name of the particular hospital where he is being treated has not been made public, and there are no known suspects in the poisoning.
