Ghana Football Awards 2023

On Sunday, June 25, 2023, the fifth edition of the Ghana Football Awards 2023 was hosted at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

The largest trophy of the day went to Black Stars midfielder Mohammed Kudus, who was named Footballer of the Year, succeeding Alexander Djiku, who won the title during the 2022 edition.

The Ajax player won the accolade over Black Stars colleagues Joseph Paintsil and Salis Abdul Samed.

Medeama Sporting Club, the Ghana Premier League champions, swept the honors, led by head coach Evans Adotey and CEO Moses Armah.

The Mauves and Yellows also won the Male Team of the Year award.

Ernest Nuamah of FC Nordsjaelland won the Odartey Lamptey Future Star category, beating out Black Princesses captain Stella Nyamaekye and Princess Owusua.

Preview: Road To Division One: International Allies FC and Home Stars Face off in Crucial Decider.

History awaits Home Stars FC and International Allies FC as both teams square it off against each other in a crunchy final of the Volta Regional Division Two Middle League scheduled for Sunday 25th June 2023 at the Ho Sports Stadium.

The tournament which serves as a qualification to the national division one will pitch former division one side Inter Allies against Home Stars FC who are making their second middle league final in two years.

Ernest Nuamah To Join Black Meteors In Morocco Ahead Of U-23 AFCON – Black Meteors Mgt Chairman

The former Ashanti Gold CEO and Black Meteors Management Committee Chairman Frederick Acheampong has revealed that Ernest Nuamah will join the Black Meteors in Morocco on Friday, 23rd June, 2023.

The team is currently in Rabat preparing for the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco this month and hope of qualifying to the next Olympic Games in Paris.

Frederick Acheampong stated that all the players called by Coach Ibrahim Tanko have reported but Ernest Nuamah is not yet in camp but will join later. They are expecting him to join the team on 23rd June 2023 ( Friday).

Acheampong said. “their focus is to qualify for the Olympics. Yes, along the way if we end up winning the tournament it will be a bonus”.

Ghana has been placed in Group A alongside Morocco, Congo, and Guinea.

They will commence on 24th June 2023 in Morocco. Ghana will take on Congo on 25th June 2023 (3:00 pm GMT)

OFFICIAL: ASAMOAH GYAN ANNOUNCED HIS RETIREMENT FROM FOOTBALL.

Asamoah Gyan announced his retirement from football at the age of 37 in a press statement released today Tuesday, 20th June, 2023.

Gyan began his career in 2003 with Ghanaian Premier League club Liberty Professionals and then spent three seasons with Serie A club Udinese which he spend three seasons via two seasons, In 2008, Gyan joined Ligue 1 club Rennes for two season.

On 31 August 2010, Gyan signed for Premier League club Sunderland on a four-year deal for a club record £13 million,however he joined Al Ain of the UAE Pro-League on loan in 2011 and became the league’s top-goalscorer, scoring 24 goals in 27 matches.

Gyan is the all-time leading goalscorer for the Ghana national team, with 51 goals, also top African goalscorer in the history of the World Cup with 6 goals.

Laryea Kingston

Laryea Kingston meet the Ayew brothers

Laryea Kingston, a former Black Stars player, recently spoke amicably with Andre and Jordan Ayew as they got ready for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar.

Kingston expressed his delight on Instagram and called his exchange with the Ayew brothers “amazing.” Prior to the Ghanaian national team’s departure for the important qualification in the Island country, this encounter took place.

Andre and Jordan Ayew both have extensive experience playing on the international football stage, having competed for the Black Stars in a number of competitions.

The older of the two brothers, Andre Ayew, has attended two AFCON championship games. He saw Ghana lose to Egypt in 2010 and to Ivory Coast in 2015. Jordan Ayew participated in the 2015 AFCON championship game, which Ghana’s team lost against the Ivory Coast national team.

A victory will guarantee the Black Stars’ qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations competition. Since Monday, the team has been practicing in Accra.

On Friday, the squad departed Ghana to Antananarivo, where they will face Madagascar in their penultimate Group E match on Sunday.

Ghana’s Black Stars have safely landed in Madagascar to resume their preparations for the pivotal Group E AFCON qualifier.

After four days of practice at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Black Stars left Accra on Friday afternoon.

The Black Stars have tonight landed in Madagascar after spending hours on aircraft that departed from Kotoka International Airport.

The Black Stars will immediately proceed to the team’s hotel and have a rest.

Ghana’s head coach Chris Hughton and his staff will take the team to practice on Saturday afternoon to finish getting ready for the encounter against Madagascar.

The match between Ghana and Madagascar is set to take place on Sunday, June 18.

If the Black Stars triumph, Ghana will be qualified to compete at the 2023 AFCON, which will be held in Madagascar.

ALL IS SET FOR 2022/2023 ADONAI ESTATE VOLTA REGIONAL DIVISION TWO MIDDLE LEAGUE.

The Ho sports stadium will be the center of attraction from the 17th day of June 2023 to 25th June 2023, as Eight division two clubs drawn from various part of Volta and Oti region will participate in this seasons division two middle league, in their quest to represent the region in next seasons National Division One League.

After several weeks of preliminary and Sub middle league matches played across the various match centers, eight teams will compete for the sole National Division One league slot available for Volta region.

No team from last season’s middle league made it to this year’s regional middle league, however this year’s middle league will see three new timer’s.

Home Stars FC and Bebeto Fc made a return to the middle league and have been drawn in group A alongside new entrance’s Burning Stars FC.

Former premier league side Inter Allies, and former Division One League side, Dynamo FC together with Yadzo Oti Warriors and new entrant Kopeyia United are drawn in group B.

Gordon McQueen

Gordon McQueen dies at age 70

Gordon McQueen, a defender who played 30 times for Scotland and assisted Leeds in winning the First Division title in 1974, was given a vascular dementia diagnosis in February 2021.

McQueen also played for Manchester United and subsequently became a well-liked Sky Sports pundit.

Gordon McQueen, a former defender for Scotland, Manchester United, and Leeds, passed away at the age of 70.

In February 2021, McQueen received a vascular dementia diagnosis.
Before transferring to Leeds in 1972 and winning the First Division two years later, he began his career with St Mirren. He also played a significant part in Leeds’ run to the 1975 European Cup final.

McQueen later enjoyed success with Manchester United, taking home the FA Cup in 1983. He also played 30 times for Scotland, scoring five goals.

During his coaching career, which also included time spent at Middlesbrough, the former center-back coached Airdrie before going on to become a well-liked TV analyst for Sky Sports.

His wife Yvonne and kids Hayley, Anna, and Edward issued a statement that read:

“It is with the heaviest of hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather.
“We hope that as well as creating many great football memories for club and his country, he will be remembered for the love, laughter and bravery that characterised his career and his family life – not least during his recent battles with ill health.
“Our house was always a buzz of friends, family and football and this constant support sustained him as he fought bravely against the cruel impact of dementia.
“The disease may have taken him too soon and while we struggle to comprehend life without him, we celebrate a man who lived life to the full: the ultimate entertainer, the life and soul of every occasion, the heart and soul of every dressing room, the most fun dad, husband and grandfather we could ever have wished for.
“The family would like to express our huge thanks to the wonderful staff at Herriot Hospice Homecare for their outstanding care; the utterly incredible Marie Curie team who were there with us all until the end with; and Head for Change for the emotional support and respite care.
“Finally, to our wonderful friends and family who are a constant source of support we send our utmost love and gratitude.
“You will remain in our hearts always”.

Ati Zigi

Lawrence Ati Zigi, Ghana’s goalkeeper, demonstrated excellent talents in front of teammates during training at the Accra Sports Stadium before of their match against Madagascar.

Ati-Zigi, Ghana’s number-one goalkeeper since the 2022 World Cup, was invited as one of the country’s three shot-stoppers and has participated completely in the team’s training session.

However, a video released by the Black Stars’ official Twitter handle demonstrating the St. Gallen netminder’s ball-juggling abilities has garnered fascinating social media remarks.

As he juggled the ball with both feet in the midst of several teammates, including Thomas Partey and Daniel Amartey, who equally applauded his talents while passing cheerful comments, the goalkeeper’s skills provided the appearance of a multitalented player.

If Ghana’s previous games are any indication, Lawrence Ati Zigi will likely stay in his position for the match against Madagascar as Ghana looks to qualify for the 2019 AFCON, which will be hosted in the Ivory Coast.

Ghana has eight points after four games and needs one more victory to qualify. If Madagascar lost, it would mark the end of their campaign.

Gideon Mensah

Due to an injury, defender Gideon Mensah will not play in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar.

After being examined by the medical staff for a season-long knee ailment, the left back who returned to camp on Monday, AJ Auxerre, has been excused from the match.

“Gideon had a knee injury throughout the course of the season, but his team treated him cautiously up to the end of the campaign. Dr. Prince Pambo, the team’s medical director, told ghanafa.org that following an evaluation in camp on Monday, the decision was made to exempt him from this game in order to prevent aggravating the ailment.

“We expect him to have enough rest during the break to be able to recover on time for next season” Dr. Pambo added.

Gideon Mensah, who made his debut for Ghana in a 2019 match against South Africa, has competed in one Africa Cup of Nations competition and the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, Ghana will continue with the preparations at the Accra Sports stadium.
