After leaving the Finnish team SJK Seinäjoki to join Elfsborg, Yegbe has emerged as a key player in their defense. He made 22 league appearances in his rookie campaign, tallying three goals and one assist.

He also made appearances in twelve Europa League games, highlighting his rising stature in the European arena.

According to reports, Elfsborg has set a valuation for Yegbe of about €5 million. The defender seems happy at his current club and is not actively looking for a transfer, despite the growing interest.

On the international front, Yegbe recently received his first call-up to Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, as a late replacement for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

This follows his participation with the Black Meteors at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Black Stars advised to develop 'fear factor' in next games

Black Stars should work on their “fear factor” in the upcoming games.

Nii Lante Vanderpuye, the former minister for Youth and Sports, has warned Ghana Black Stars to step up their performances and not let their recent wins downplay the strength of their next 2026 World Cup qualifier matches.

Despite the victories over Chad and Madagascar, 5-0 and 3-0, respectively, the former minister seems unimpressed by their performances; Vanderpuye remains unconvinced about the team’s overall development.

“I want to see a Ghana national team that will strike fear or put every other team on alert that they are playing Ghana, whether you are Argentina or Brazil,” Vanderpuye emphasised.

Despite the huge score lines, he voiced worries about the team’s development, saying that the two games played thus far show no signs of growth.

With 15 points, Ghana leads Group I, and the wins have increased the team’s chances of making it to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Vanderpuye’s remarks emphasize how important it is for the Black Stars to create a “fear factor” in order to be a strong opponent in future games.

“Aaron is bringing with him established professional and international experience,” North Texas head coach John Gall said.

“A midfield dynamo, he takes over the middle of the park with his quality and tenacity. He is a reflection of the standard we are establishing here at the club, and we are looking forward to having him on the pitch for us.”

GFA sues Muftawu Nabila Multimedia Group for defamation

Muftawu Nabila Multimedia Group is being sued by GFA for defamation.

Due to allegations of financial impropriety in the Association’s bus procurement contract, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has filed a lawsuit against Multimedia Group Limited and journalist Muftawu Nabila Abdulai.

The writer and his media firm are accused in the action, which was filed in the Accra High Court, of publishing false and defamatory claims that have damaged the standing of the nation’s football regulatory body.

The case is based on reports that were broadcast on Joy FM and Joy News on March 4, 2025, and that were published on MyJoyOnline.com. According to the sources, Freightgistics Ghana Company Ltd was given a GH₵5.1 million contract by the GFA to buy the nine Hyundai County buses.

The reports further alleged that the Football Association used FIFA Forward money to procure the buses for the clubs through sole sourcing and alleging procurement breaches.

It was also alleged that the Ghana Football Association altered the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), better known as Chassis number, to deceive revenue authorities.

In a follow-up report on March 10, 2025, the GFA was also accused of importing 40 mattresses in one of the containers that delivered the buses, further fueling allegations of questionable procurement practices. The reports suggested that the purchase violated FIFA’s procurement regulations, which require open and competitive bidding for contracts exceeding $50,000.

As part of its lawsuit, the GFA is demanding several remedies from the court:

A full and unreserved public retraction of all defamatory statements.

Prosper Narteh Ogum, the head coach of Asante Kotoko, has urged the Black Stars’ technical staff to look far and wide for local talents to play for the senior national team.

The only local players chosen for Ghana’s recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers were three homegrown players: Nations FC center back Razak Simpson, Medeama SC defender Kamaradini Mamudu, and Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.

Asare, the goalkeeper for Hearts, made a compelling argument for the locals by playing both games in his debut call-up and replacing longtime first-choice Lawrence Ati-Zigi.

The 32-year-old wrapped up two clean sheets when Ghana battered Chad by 5-0 in Accra on March 21 and defeated Madagascar 3-0 in Morocco three days later to top Group I.

Dr. Ogum believes the local league has untapped potential that deserves more attention from Ghana’s technical selectors.

“They [technical team] need to scout deeper and deeper in the [Ghana] league, and when they are able to do that, I’m sure they will have a backlog of locally good talented players who, when given the opportunity, can play,” Ogum said after their FA Cup triumph over True Democracy.

“To me, they shouldn’t just scout local players and go and put them on the bench. They should scout players who, when given the chance, will be able to compete.

“It is a clear indication that there are other players in the local league who, when given the necessary opportunity, the right opportunity, will also be able to showcase their talent. The Ghana Premier League has quality; people think that there is no quality in the Ghana Premier League (but) there is quality,” he said.

The four-time African champions now lead Group I with 15 points. Ghana will face Chad and Mali in their next set of qualifiers in September.

University of Ghana to host entire CAF African Schools Football Championship

The entire CAF African Schools Football Championship will be held at the University of Ghana.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship, which was set for April 21–26, 2025, will now occur at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram was originally scheduled to host the preliminary stages, while the University of Ghana Stadium would host the finals. Nevertheless, CAF has made the decision to consolidate the competition at a single location, relocating all games to the University of Ghana.

Better coordination and logistics for competing teams, authorities, and organizers are made possible by the move, which guarantees a single venue for the championship.

46 national school teams will compete in the tournament, including the hosts Ghana and the winners of the six CAF zones. With $300,000 going to the winning school, $200,000 to the runner-up, and $150,000 to the third-place finisher, the total prize fund is still $650,000.

The competition has been held in South Africa in 2023 and Tanzania in 2024, but this is the first time a West African nation is hosting it.

Samuel Osei Kuffour speaks on emotional exit from Black Stars

Samuel Osei Kuffour, a former Ghanaian defender, has called his departure from the Black Stars one of the most trying times in his professional life.

Ghana qualified for their first-ever FIFA World Cup in 2006 thanks in large part to the former Bayern Munich player. But during the team’s opening game against eventual champion Italy, his tournament experience took an emotional turn.

Kuffour’s misdirected back pass resulted in a goal, which helped Ghana lose 2-0. He was consequently left out of the starting lineup for the Round of 16 encounter against Brazil and was also removed from the squad for the second group-stage game.

“I felt bad after the first game against Italy during the 2006 World Cup, but being dropped for the second game opened the door for others,” Kuffour told Sporty FM.

Despite his disappointment, he still believed he had put in a strong performance against Italy.

“I played one of my best games against Italy, but that mistake… and after the tournament, I told my management I could not play for the national team anymore,” he added.

Kuffour, who earned 54 caps and scored three goals for Ghana, remains one of the nation’s most decorated defenders, with a career that saw him win multiple trophies, including the UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich.

Lawrence Agyekum scored and provided assist in Cercle Brugge’s draw against K.V. Kortrijk

In Cercle Brugge’s draw with K.V. Kortrijk, Lawrence Agyekum scored and assisted.

Lawrence Agyekum, a Ghanaian midfielder at Cercle Brugge, on Sunday impressed his club by scoring and assisting in their draw match against K.V. Kortrijk in the Belgian Pro League.

Lawrence recently earned a call-up to the senior national team of Ghana, where he played till the 83rd minute before he was substituted for Adu Francis.

K.V Kortrijk on Sunday took the lead in the 14th minute; Cercle Brugge then fought back, but their effort wasn’t paying off until Agyekum’s strike to level the scores in the 54th minute; he continued his impactful moves in the game and provided an assist for Thibo Somers, who scored to put the club ahead in the 80th minute.

However, their hopes of victory were dashed late in the match when Abdelkahar Kadri struck to secure a point for K.V. Kortrijk.

Agyekum’s goal was his first of the season, coming after 28 league appearances. His impressive display highlights his growing influence in the team as the season progresses.

Jerome Opoku praises Otto Addo’s tactical setup after his competitive Ghana debut

Otto Addo’s tactical setup is praised by Jerome Opoku following his competitive Ghana debut.

In his first competitive game, Ghanaian defender Jerome Opoku has attributed his smooth transition into the Black Stars’ starting lineup to coach Otto Addo’s tactical changes.

In Ghana’s game against Madagascar, the 26-year-old was given a starting position and played in a 3-5-2 configuration instead of the previous 4-1-4-1 one. He just had one training session to get used to it, but he gave a confident performance in the back.

“I would say I was a little surprised to start against Madagascar, but as I said, I had always worked and looked forward to my time here,” Opoku told Flashscore.

His easy adjustment was greatly aided by his experience with a comparable setup at the Turkish club Basaksehir. He clarified, “It was easy for me because we’ve played with a three-back in my club a couple of times this season, so it was quite easy to settle in.”

Opoku also emphasized the significance of the coaching staff’s preparations, which made sure the players had a smooth transition. “It also helped really well because the coaches from Ghana really worked through it and came up with a clear plan for everyone to adopt,” he said.

With previous experience as a left-back during his time at Fulham’s academy, Opoku’s versatility adds depth to Ghana’s defense. His solid display contributed to a 3-0 victory over Madagascar, following a dominant 5-0 win against Chad. The Black Stars now sit three points clear at the top of their 2026 World Cup qualifying group.

Dani Alves' rape sentence is overturned by a Spanish court.

On appeal, a Spanish court reversed the sexual assault conviction of former Barcelona and Brazil defender Dani Alves.

Dani Alves was cleared after Catalonia’s High Court of Justice’s appeals section unanimously upheld his appeal, citing “inconsistencies and contradictions” in the case against him.

After being found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman at a Barcelona bar in 2022, Alves, a former full-back with 126 international caps, was given a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence in February 2024.

He was released on bail in March 2024 while his appeal was heard by a higher court. The appeal court said that the ruling in the original court case “contains, throughout the reasoning, a series of gaps, inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and contradictions regarding the facts, the legal assessment, and their consequences.

The appeals court also dismissed Alves’s claim for 150,000 euros in compensation against his accuser and removed all limitations on him, including a restraining order and travel ban.

Dani Alves' rape sentence is overturned by a Spanish court.

“Alves is very happy. He is innocent, that is demonstrated. Justice has spoken,” his lawyer Ines Guardiola, told Barcelona-based RAC1 radio.

At the time of his arrest, Alves was contracted to Mexican club Pumas UNAM — he was sacked soon afterwards. But former Minister of Equality of Spain Irene Montero, who drafted a tough new law against sexual offences which came into effect in 2023, said the ruling was a “clear example” of “patriarchal justice that does not protect women and maintains the culture of impunity for aggressors”.

Alves was a key cog of an all-conquering Barcelona team — crowned La Liga champions six times — and won 126 caps for Brazil, winning the Copa America twice.

He also won European league titles with Italian giants Juventus and French outfit Paris Saint Germain.
